Emmerdale has promised some big twists ahead for John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) as his secrets are finally revealed in flashback scenes this week.

Since arriving in the village last summer, John has sparked suspicion among fans, who are desperate to know what he is hiding.

With his wedding to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) looming, there is sure to be drama ahead – but what exactly is John’s big secret?

John is Nate’s killer

Ever since Nate Robinson’s (Jurell Carter) body was discovered in the frozen lake after the limo crash, fans have suspected that John had something to do with his suspicious death.

In his final episode, Nate was last seen speaking to John at Butler’s Farm, before disappearing off-screen. His lowkey exit left fans suspicious, already speculating that John may have been involved.

Last week, Metro revealed that the mystery behind Nate’s death is soon set to be revealed, with some huge twists and turns.

‘Ever since the revelation that Nate is dead, fans have been aching to find out the truth about what happened to him,’ a source told us.

‘They don’t have long to wait, and they can expect huge twists and turns – it’s just the beginning of some real drama that will keep everyone on the edge of their seats.’

Could John have had something to do with his death?

Aidan Moore’s true identity

When John first arrived in the village, he was in possession of some dog tags, and told sister Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) that he had been in the army.

However, the dog tags had the name ‘Aidan Moore’ engraved into them, which sparked a lot of fan theories as to who Aidan could be.

While some wondered if John was telling the truth about being in the army and Aidan was merely a fallen comrade, others speculated that he was a lost lover of John’s.

Others speculated that Aidan was John’s real identity, with dad Jack Sugden having had an affair with a woman called Karen Moore in the 1980s.

In a more sinister theory, some fans wondered if John had killed Aidan and stole his identity.

Anthony Fox may not be dead

John was heavily involved in abuser Anthony Fox’s murder, having been the one to dispose of the body.

Or so he said.

Could he have lied about what really happened to Anthony?

As viewers, we never saw the body, which is always a hint in soap that the ‘dead’ character is actually still alive.

Knowing how upset both Aaron and Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) were by Anthony’s disgusting behaviour, could John be enacting his own revenge, while telling the others that Anthony is dead?

Heartbreak for Aaron Dingle

It’s possible that this story could end in heartbreak for Aaron, as he learns the truth about John.

Could it be that John has a secret family, and has been seeing another partner behind Aaron’s back all this time?

Or, with the wedding getting closer, could John’s secret be set to explode during the ceremony, totally ruining the big day?

John is Emmerdale’s next serial killer

Emmerdale is well overdue another serial killer, and fans suspect that John is the perfect candidate.

The villagers haven’t had a serial killer in their midst since the end of Meena Jutla’s reign of terror in 2022.

Three years on, could John be set to follow in her footsteps?

Fans already suspect that John previously killed Nate and Aidan, as well as wondering if he could have delivered a final blow to Anthony.

Chas Dingle’s spiking

When Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) collapsed after having her drink spiked in recent scenes, fans instantly suspected that John was involved.

Having been the one to rush to her aid, some wondered if he was keen to play the hero to get in her good books, after she made her thoughts about Aaron and John’s engagement clear.

However, others wondered if he’d actually been trying to get her out of the way, but messed up.

Jacob Gallagher’s collapse

In upcoming scenes, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) is set to suffer an allergic reaction after drinking from the wrong drink, which sends him into anaphylactic shock.

The journey to a soap wedding is never smooth sailing, and we doubt that John and Aaron’s will be any different.

With both men clearly storing skeletons in their closets, could someone be set to come crawling out of the woodwork to throw a spanner in the works?

Fans have been desperate for Robert Sugden to return ever since his departure from the village, so could they be set to get their wish?

Other fans suspect that John may be connected to Robert in a different way, having met him in prison.

‘I think he was in prison with him and either loved him or hated him, and he’s come to Emmerdale to get with Aaron because of whatever went on inside.
