In Emmerdale, Belle Dingle headed off to Shetland to find Nate and bring him home. But fans all noticed one major plot hole in the storyline.
Nate’s body still remains undiscovered in Emmerdale. And right now, everyone (except for John) believes that Nate left to start a new life. But up until last night (May 22), they believed that new life was in Shetland.
However, the Dingles are now aware that Nate never went to Shetland. So, the mystery of where he is continues. But fans were extremely distracted by Belle’s plot-hole.

Emmerdale Belle drove to Shetland to find Nate
The only reason anyone knows Nate isn’t where he said he was going is because Belle drove to Shetland to find him. Then came home whenever she discovered he never went.
Once Belle heard just how much Tracy was struggling, she decided something needed to be done about it. And because she used to be close to Nate, she felt she could get through to him.
Of course, Nate isn’t actually just being a horrible dad. Thanks to John Sugden, Nate is dead and his body is in the lake. And John has made it known to us that he will do anything to protect his secret.
Emmerdale is prone to a plot hole or two occasionally. But everyone was shocked at how quickly Belle managed to get to and from Shetland.
To get from Yorkshire to Shetland it takes approximately 18 hours – including the drive and the ferry. So, it seems highly impossible someone could do it within 24 hours. Yet, Belle did.

Fans slam plot hole
Fans took to X to share their confusion at the soap, believing it should have known the distance between places.
One wrote: “Having Belle drive (yes, drive) to Shetland and back again in 24 hours may be the most unrealistic thing Emmerdale has ever done. The ferry alone is minimum 14.5 hours each way and that’s not including the drive to Aberdeen to catch it.”
Another joked: “Did Belle use the millennium falcon to go to Shetland?”
“Belle looks remarkably good considering she’s just done a round trip to Shetland within 24 hours!”
A confused fan penned: “So Belle has been to Shetland and back within 24 hours??”
Another commented: “Belle, that was a quick trip.”
