Major Coronation Street couple’s split ‘confirmed’ after death – and another exit follows

George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) contemplates his relationship with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) in Coronation Street next week, after the tragic death of her sister Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh-Jupe).

It’s an emotional week ahead on the cobbles, as the much-loved character enjoys one final day out.

As viewers of the ITV soap know, Julie returned earlier this year and was forced to confess that she is terminally ill with a stage four sarcoma.

Eileen was understandably devastated by the revelation and has become determined to make her final months memorable.

This will ultimately lead to her decision to leave Weatherfield after 25 years, with Sue Cleaver deciding to quit the role.

Recent scenes have seen Julie begin to struggle with her everyday life, as she has found herself wracked with pain.

She has tried her best to get out of the house to see her friends, and even managed to rekindle her former romance with Brian Packham (Peter Gunn).

Tragedy strikes on their day out

During a chat about her adoration for The Kabin shopkeeper, she accidentally let slip to George that Eileen is bored of their relationship.

A frustrated Eileen then became jealous of her partner’s doting behaviour, more so when he palmed her off with Brian so that he could take care of Julie.

In upcoming scenes, Julie records a heartbreaking video message for her family, talking about the importance of love.

George is planning to pull out all the stops for a romantic evening with Eileen, desperate to show her that is still is still head over heels.

However, the plan backfires when he goes back on a promise. Eileen and Julie had planned a day out at the lake, and he can no longer drive them there.

Forced to take a taxi instead, the sisters take in the views of the park and relish in one another’s company. There truly is nowhere else Julie would rather be.

Back at home, George has uncovered Julie’s video message, where she advises her to call time on her relationship.

What a shocker!

The events at the lake take a heartbreaking turn when Eileen goes to get some drinks, and on her return, Julie has passed away.

The Grimshaw clan begin to grieve, but George is struggling to think about anything other than Julie’s words.

Eileen takes note of his frustration, and quickly becomes annoyed.
