EastEnders to be pulled from BBC One in major soap schedule shake-up

The programme tends to air from Monday to Thursday on BBC One

EastEnders is set to be pulled from BBC One in the coming weeks in a major schedule shake-up for the soap.

It’s been a frantic week for the BBC series, with Ben Wadey’s first episodes as the series’ Executive Producer airing.

Tasked with filling in the shoes of Chris Clenshaw, who held the position for three years, Ben brought back a character not seen in two decades in his first episode.

The drama this week has centred around Zoe Slater appearing out of the blue, with Michelle Ryan playing the character for the first time since 2005.

It was revealed that Kat Slater’s daughter has been staying with Stacey Slater amidst her financial woes and drinking problems.

While fans remember her as a bubbly personality, Zoe lied to Stacey and Alfie Moon that she was being hunted by loansharks, before stealing Stacey’s credit card and jetting off to Barcelona.

In scenes that aired on Thursday night (June 19), Alfie had to lie to Cat that he was going to visit his brother Spencer Moon in Australia, when he’s really trying to track Zoe down.

Zoe has insisted all week that she wants nothing to do with her mum, who fans will recall initially portrayed she was her sister, due to doing something ‘very bad’.

Viewers are unsure of when Zoe will make her second return, but it looks likely that EastEnders won’t be slowing down any time soon.

EastEnders tends to air from Monday to Thursday each week on BBC One, with the episodes released at 6am on the iPlayer.

In a big twist to how the show airs, the week after next will see its air dates affected by the BBC’s coverage of the annual tennis event Wimbledon.

On Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1, the soap will be airing double bills, meaning there will be no episodes broadcast on Wednesday or Thursday that week.

Additionally, the episodes will begin airing at the earlier time of 7pm, rather than starting at its normal time of 7.30pm.

Fans should also note that as a result of BBC One airing the first two days of Wimbledon, EastEnders will be moving to BBC Two for the week.

The news comes after EastEnders skipped the June 9 episode due to Match of the Day presenting a FIFA World Cup group qualifier match between Wales and Belgium.

As a result of this change, the week of Kat and Alfie’s wedding saw episodes dropping on the iPlayer a full day before their TV broadcast.

In what’s proving to be a confusing time for viewers, the episode which marked Zoe’s comeback earlier this week was not released early on the iPlayer to avoid spoilers leaking.
