EastEnders shock new ‘sibling’ romance ‘sealed’ – but viewers are not impressed

There have been a slew of relationships in EastEnders over the years – but it

appears viewers are not impressed with a potential romance between two beloved

characters Over in Walford, Callum Highway (Tony Clay) has been left devastated

following his husband Ben Mitchell’s (Max Bowden) exit. As fans will recall, Ben was sent to prison recently. The son of Phill Mitchell (Steve McFadden) committed credit card fraud during his time in America last year – and was sent back to the States to spend time behind bars. Meanwhile, Callum has been left heartbroken in Walford. What’s more, reverently Phil decided to book Callum, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Lexi flights to America to visit Ben.

Sadly, a gutted Callum couldn’t get the time off from work. And over in the soap this week, Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) attempted to cheer Callum up by having a drink. Later on, Johnny tried to convince Callum to go out with him and enjoy himself – but Callum wasn’t in the mood for fun. However, after some persuasion from Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton), Callum decided to head out on the town with Johnny. While in the Queen Vic, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) watched Johnny and Callum, and told Callum that it didn’t take him long to move on from Ben.

Callum was left horrified after Billy’s comment – and pulled out of his night out with Johnny. Now, viewers are certain that Johnny and Callum will be shacking up anytime now. However, fans are not keen on their romance, likening their relationship to siblings. On X, one fan pointed out how Johnny and Callum are like ‘brothers’ as Johnny’s dad Mick Carter (Danny Myers) looked after Callum and was there for him over the years.

“It’s especially not classy considering callum is: 1) clearly being written as not interested, 2) essentially grieving his marriage and 3) kind of his brother?” someone fumed. A second added: “Callum’s more like Johnny’s brother considering how he considered mick a dad.” “Please no!” a third proclaimed, along with the hashtag brothers. Another wrote: “Wouldn’t Johnny and Callum be weird given they knew each other since they were kids and grew up as brothers.”
