OMG SHOCKING!! Corrie fans are seriously divided over the Platt fire

Coronation Street fans have shared their verdict on tonight’s dramatic episode, which saw the Platt’s family home go up in flames.

The blaze began shortly after a mysterious hooded individual dropped a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox of Number 8, followed by some lit matches.

It was Sally Metcalfe – who lives next door – who was the first to be aware of the fire. She remarked to husband Tim that she could smell burning and quickly headed to the Bistro, where Sarah Platt was celebrating her birthday, to alert the family.

Upon seeing the fire, Shona Platt and Nick Tilsley rushed into the house where they found Toyah Battersby unconscious on the floor. Nick carried Toyah outside, while Shona and Max Turner headed further into the burning home, believing Lily could be inside.

The episode ended with Shona escaping, while viewers feared Max dead after the house exploded.

Viewers shared their reaction to the hour-long episode online, with many finding it hard to believe that Shona was able to get out in time.

“How did Shona open the door quickly when it was jammed it was like she teleported through it,” wrote one user on X, while another agreed: “It’s not Max we’re worried about. it’s actually Shona and her ability to teleport to the other side of a wall help us understand???? #Corrie.”

One X user defended Shona’s escape explaining what they saw: “Shona tried the door it was jammed… she managed to open it and then the debris collapsed behind her barracking the door! i think you lot need some glasses.”

Other users weighed in on the soap’s use of CGI to create the fire, with less than favourable reviews.

“Coronation street fire is the worst use of AI i have ever seen. Not realistic at all!!” tweeted one fan, with another user writing: “That CGI fire was a choice. At one point Shonas elbow was in the fire and nothing happened.”

Despite the after effects, one Coronation Street viewer felt the cast delivered the drama in the episode.

“Brilliant acting once again from all involved! can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!,” they wrote. Another replied simply with several shocked face emojis.

While another viewer said: “Exellent episode..well done to cast and crew, the amount of effort put into making it this good is superb.”

Luckily, fans don’t have to wait too long to see the aftermath of the fire, with the ITV soap back on screens tomorrow night for another hour-long special episode.
