After learning that Damon is his half-brother in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale,
Severide has taken the younger firefighter under his wing. It’s clear that Severide
wants to get to know Damon and develop a relationship with him.
He is also very protective of Damon, even lying to his wife, Stella Kidd, to cover for his brother during Chicago Fire season 13, episode 2.
Cliffhanger Resolution Is A Disappointing Cop-Out
The Chicago Fire season 12 finale ended with a cliffhanger concerning Severide, and its payout in the season 13 premiere was dissatisfying.
Since Damon is a part of Kidd’s Truck 81 crew, she is his boss, not Severide (who leads Rescue Squad 3). So, when Damon disobeys Kidd’s orders while on a call, she is more than ready to punish him for being reckless and not listening to her. Damon claims that he couldn’t hear Kidd (his sister-in-law), but Severide knows that is a lie because he was standing near his brother and could hear Kidd fine. Nevertheless, Kidd lets his rash behavior slide. Severide, on the other hand, is conflicted about whether to be honest with his wife or to protect his brother.
Not only did Severide lie to his wife about Damon disobeying her orders during Chicago Fire season 13, episode 2, Taylor Kinney’s character has also not told Chief Dom Pascal that Damon is his brother. During the premiere, Pascal made it clear that he doesn’t want family members working together.
If Kidd writes Damon up, he could get transferred to another station, and it will be on his record forever. While first covering for Damon, Severide later tells Stella the truth about what happened during the fire call in episode 2. Kidd is upset, of course, but the real shocker comes at the end of the hour when Severide tells Damon the two of them can’t work at the same firehouse. Severide is fed up with having to choose between his brother and his wife. Perhaps Michael Bradway’s time on the Chicago Fire season 13 cast is coming to an end.
