There’s an almighty DNA bombshell on the way on EastEnders next week, with a paternity twist set to rock more than one character.
After past hints of a twist between two characters after a fling years ago, spoilers have now confirmed a shocking prediction by fans. It could leave more than one character heartbroken, while the discovery leaves someone in turmoil.
Viewers will find out the real father of Barney Mitchell next week, after previous speculation that Teddy Mitchell was not his biological dad. This is confirmed next week after a hospital dash leads to a discovery for another Walford man.
It turns out the father of Barney is none other than Zack Hudson, the brother of Sharon Watts. After Barney’s mum Nicola Mitchell arrived in Walford a few months back, it became clear she and Zack knew each other.

It was revealed the pair had had a fling when Nicola was still married to Teddy. New spoilers have now confirmed there’s more to it though, and Nicola fell pregnant with Zack’s child after the fling, only to pretend until now that Teddy was the father.

It all comes about next week when Barney overhears Sharon’s secret, amid Sharon dating his father Teddy. When Zack confronts Barney, there’s an incident when Barney’s wound from the recent pub explosion begins to bleed.
He’s taken to hospital with Teddy, Nicola and Barney in tow. But Zack is confused when he overhears a telling conversation about blood groups.
Zack ends up speaking to a nurse about it before confronting Nicola, asking if he is in fact Barney’s real dad after their shared past which is yet to be fully explained. Nicola admits in a major twist that Zack is Barney’s biological father.
Zack is left reeling and as he hits the bottle he gets a phone call from ex Whitney Dean which leaves him in a worse state. Nicola is determined to stop the truth from coming out though and tries to gain control of the situation but what does she have up her sleeve?
It’s yet to be made clear what Zack will do about the bombshell and whether he or Nicola will tell Barney the truth. It’s also not clear just yet how much Teddy knows about Zack and Nicola, and if he knows that Barney is not his biological son.
Zack actor James Farrar had told The Mirror back in September that a huge storyline was on the cards for his character in 2025. It seems he was talking about the big twist with Barney!
