Coronation Street star reportedly quits show after two years in off-screen exit

Coronation Street star Jack Carroll has reportedly quit the show after two years, in an off-screen exit.

The actor and comedian first arrived on the cobbles in 2023, playing cheeky chappie Bobby Crawford. After revealing he was the son of Rob Donovan, Bobby quickly formed a bond with his auntie Carla Connor – despite her initial reservations about him.

The character also became fast friends with several of the street’s youngsters, including Max Turner, Simon Barlow, Lauren Bolton and Betsy Swain.

In a recent storyline, Bobby and Lauren clashed when she wrongly accused him of blackmailing her. Furious Bobby told Lauren that they were no longer friends, and decided to go to on a lads’ holiday to Spain with Simon.

However, according to The Sun, Bobby’s subtle departure from Weatherfield, which aired on 12 May, marked Carroll’s final episode on the show.

The star reportedly filmed his last scenes back in March as his storyline came to a natural end, but the door is said to be open for him to return in the future.

Digital Spy has reached out to Coronation Street for comment.

Carroll, who has cerebral palsy, first shot to fame in 2013 when he became the runner-up on Britain’s Got Talent for his stand-up comedy. He went on to appear in a number of TV shows, before being cast in Coronation Street.

Speaking previously about how he landed the role, Carroll told Digital Spy: “It had been in development for a little while. Finally my agent called to say we were going ahead with it – and then I found out it was Bobby I’d be playing. It’s a great part for me, I think.

“The fact there’s quite a lot of comedic traits already there within the character is a good thing. Hopefully myself and the character can meet in the middle, which is where the best stuff comes from.”
