Christmas episodes divided the public; here are the reasons

Virgin River released its Christmas episodes and, although they were a hit

in the numbers, the audience was divided. What went wrong?

“Virgin River” fans waited nearly three months for the recently released Christmas episodes.

However, it appears that audiences are split on the specials, with some thinking they are the best episodes of the fifth season, while others find them frustrating, if not terrible.

Here are four main reasons why viewers were unhappy with the “Virgin River” Christmas episodes.

Very summary, little news

Despite the huge expectations for the Christmas episodes, fans of “Virgin River” were completely discouraged by the second part of the fifth season. Firstly, viewers didn’t like the festive first episode, which seemed to be a quick summary of the rest of the season. Given that the fifth season is undoubtedly the busiest yet, it was a challenge to compress all the events into one episode – and this proved to be a total failure.

As a result, the second Christmas episode contained all the festive events. But this time there were too many to keep track of.

As the first specials in the five-year run of “Virgin River,” the Christmas episodes were very different from the rest of the show. While they were truly festive and exciting, they were very reminiscent of Hallmark’s hokey productions. Sure, the Netflix show isn’t the most serious series in nature, but the two specials made it seem like the epitome of triviality, something fans didn’t appreciate.

Another problem, although very similar, was that the two Christmas episodes seemed to turn “Virgin River” into a full-blown soap opera. The drama of Charmaine’s dramatic pregnancy, Lizzie and Denny’s rekindled romance and family planning, Doc and Hope’s sugary reunion, the whole plot of Mel finding her biological father — “Virgin River” seems to be spinning the drama for free. It’s just not exciting anymore.

Mel and Jack’s Unsatisfactory Dynamic

Let’s be honest! We love “Virgin River” for its central romance. While Part 1 of the fifth season featured Mel and Jack a lot and explored their relationship in different lights – the marriage proposal, Jack’s house arrest, Mel’s miscarriage – the Christmas specials moved away from them and focused on the supporting characters. , like Cameron and Muriel, Lizzie and Denny, Brady and Lark, and so on. As exciting as it was to see Jack’s family for the first time, his lack of interaction with Melinda left the audience unsatisfied.
