Chicago Fire’s Kara Killmer opens up about Brettsey’s wedding and saying goodbye to Sylvie

Chicago Fire said goodbye to one of its own Wednesday nights – in the happiest

way possible. Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) got married

in a surprisingly beautiful wedding that took place at a fish shop, followed, naturally,

by a reception at Molly’s. Soon after, they went to Portland together. Which means, yes, it was Killmer’s final episode 10 years after her first. And for the actress, leaving that beautiful note was a fulfilling journey. When Sylvie Brett became a paramedic at Firehouse 51 in 2014, she was a bride who had just been left at the altar by her high school sweetheart. “Then we end with her standing face to face with the love of her life, getting married and finally getting everything she always wanted,” Killmer, 35, told PEOPLE. “I couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion for Sylvie.” Chicago Fire’s Brett and Casey tie the knot in fish shop wedding: Get an exclusive first look “You are my harbor in the storm,” Casey said in her vows. “The most generous, caring person I’ve ever known – and sometimes the most stubborn. … This, the two of us together, is a fire that never goes out.”

As their Firehouse 51 family laughed, Matt added, “Somehow, I had to put a fire metaphor in there.” Sylvie’s vows begin: “Here’s why I want to get married in the aquarium: Years ago, you and I took Amelia to see the fish there, do you remember? What you don’t know is that it is when I realized that you were the only man for me. … I knew you were born to be a father. And when you decided to be a father to the Darden boys, it only made me love you more, even though I tried so hard. And I couldn’t. Like you said: we were meant to be. Below, Killmer shares all the details about shopping for Sylvie’s wedding dress, her final moments on set, and the advice she has for the next actor entering Ambo 61. EVERYONE: How does it feel to know the final moments of Chicago Fire are about to air? KARA KILLMER: It was really fun. It’s probably two weeks until my last day on Fire, and I just went with Hanako [Greensmith, who plays Violet Mikami] and Miranda [Rae Mayo, who plays Stella Kidd] to watch episode 5, and we still talk often.

So it tastes bitter but is sweet rather than bitter. Let’s talk about weddings. What was your first thought when you saw the fish shop? I walked in and said, “Yeah, they gave them the job. This is a tough climb.” It’s a beautiful store and all the fish are beautiful, but it’s a perfect challenge for 51. I mean, this is the point of our show: someone has a problem, and 51 band together and find every solution to solve the problem. Offer a solution. Everything you need to know about Chicago Fire season 12 And when you see it decorated for the ceremony? It certainly looks like somewhere else. It’s interesting to see how they tweaked everything to make it look like a place. I told the owner of Tank It Easy, the aquarium’s real name, “You’ll probably get requests for this as a wedding location later, so don’t forget how you rearrange everything.” rank.” Tell me about finding Sylvie’s dress.

How was that experience? Very happy. The wardrobe director, Sue Kaufmann, and I basically went on four dates around the city to different bridal shops. I probably tried on about 50 dresses. We found five of those that were our top picks, then she brought those into the studio and we actually had a little bridal party. Hanako and Miranda came in, my makeup artist Karen [Brody] came in, I tried on all the dresses and got their opinions. It’s like Saying Yes to the Dress. The resounding response was to choose the one we landed on. It’s very similar to Sylvie. It’s very wistful and romantic, and the flowers are very spring-like. I wore light pink shoes underneath. I had a Barbie moment. So was the wedding your last day on set? My last day on set was actually the reception at Molly’s, so it was a big party. I love it. The last scene I shot was me wearing a wedding dress. It’s like, “Wow, I couldn’t feel more beautiful than this.” It was a lot of fun. It was a perfect way to close out my experience and wrap up Sylvie’s storyline. Taylor Kinney will return to Chicago Fire in Season 12 after his hiatus When you hear the words “That’s Kara Killmer’s bundle,” do you shed a tear? How does that feel? It was kind of surreal. There’s too much buildup. We got out of this long strike and came back after six episodes, so I c
