What’s going on with these two? Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has been struggling
since her husband Severide (Taylor Kinney) left Chicago Fire, and a recent series of events
have led her to get closer to Sam Carver (Jake Lockett). This closeness was solidified
when Kidd was in danger, and decided to call Carver to come help her. There’s a definite connection the two share, which we’ve gotten to see over the course of the season, but the more time passes, the more we are left to wonder how deep the connection will get. Is romance a possibility? What happened with Carver and Kidd on Chicago Fire? The Chicago Fire writers are doing something pretty interesting here, which is reverse the situation that Severide was in during season 10.
When Kidd was on the road to promote the Girls on Fire program, Severide was getting close to Wendy Seager (Andy Allo), and the flirty dynamic between them led fans to theorize that maybe the Stellaride dynamic was in danger. Nothing ended up happening between Severide and Seager, and the former went on to marry Kidd in triumphant fashion. Now that he’s gone, however, Kidd finds herself in a situation where she is lonely, and getting increasingly close to a co-worker as well. The irony is make even thicker when you consider that Carver has hooked up with Seager multiple times throughout season 11.
It doesn’t appear to be leading to anything serious, but it does add a layer of complication to an already complicated situation. While the notion of Kidd and Carver having an affair would be shocking, and likely made for juicy drama, the decision would undermine a lot of what Kidd and Severide have built together. Affairs don’t often occur in the One Chicago universe, and when they do, they aren’t played out between two of the main cast members. Our prediction is that Kidd will undergo a similar arc to the one Severide did last season, and realize how much her spouse means to her. Her friendship with Carver is sincere, but we’d be shocked if it wound up crossing any romantic lines.
