Chicago Fire Star Kara Killmer to Exit Series During Season 12

ara Killmer will be leaving Chicago Fire in season 12, PEOPLE can confirm.

The actress, 35, who plays the role of paramedic Sylvie Brett, joined the high stakes

NBC drama series in 2014 during season 3 and has appeared in more than 190

episodes. Though the details and the timing of her exit has yet to be released, viewers last saw her love interest Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) dropping to a knee and proposing. With Casey living in Oregon, Chicago Fire fans can assume she may be heading west. Shortly after the news went public, Killmer seemingly confirmed her departure in a carousel of images highlighting her time on the show shared to Instagram. “These are the very first few pictures I took, or was tagged in, when I first came to Chicago,” she wrote in the caption. “Going up in the Squad 1 basket was my first exposure to the CFD—some of the best firefighters in the country!”

The post featured photos of Killmer being lifted in a crane, her time on set, her favorite moments on camera and her Chicago abode. She continued, “The view from my very first apartment was absolutely stunning and the beginning of a love affair with the gorgeous city of Chicago!” Though Killmer may be leaving Firehouse 51, Taylor Kinney will return in season 12 following a hiatus from the hit NBC procedural that he took earlier in the year.

A source close to production previously confirmed to PEOPLE in January that the actor, 42, who portrays Lieutenant Kelly Severide, was taking a leave of absence to “deal with a personal matter.” His character’s absence on the show was somewhat explained in a season 11 episode as having to do with a last-minute opportunity for Severide to attend “the best arson investigation training program in the world.” But when Severide didn’t return to Chicago after the program wrapped, his wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), and fans alike were concerned.

All three shows — Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. — will resume production the week of Nov. 27, though new season premiere dates have not yet been announced. Jessy Schram, who joined the NBC drama Chicago Med as Dr. Hannah Asher in 2019, opened up to PEOPLE about the cast’s exciting return to set following the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “I get to go back to Chicago Med and we’re slated to start from photography on the 27th of November,” Schram, 27, said while attending Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas Holiday Celebration at The Grove in Los Angeles. “So right after Thanksgiving, we’re up.” Schram added, “All the crews are back. Our cast, our crew, everybody that’s part of it gets to go back to work again.”
