‘Chicago Fire’ Recap: Everything You Missed During the Devastating Fall Finale

Ahead of Chicago Fire’s fall finale, producer Derek Haas promised that

viewers would be “furious,” and he delivered. The emotional twists and turns we witnessed

on Wednesday night were more gut-wrenching than anything else we’ve seen this season.

The episode was called “Always A Catch,” which prompts one obvious question: what’s the catch? By the final scene, we definitely found out—and it doesn’t bode well for the future of some favorite characters. Read on for the most important details from the season 7 fall finale of Chicago Fire.

There’s trouble between Stella and Severide.
Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) have become the primary couple in Chicago Fire, but their complicated relationship is often tainted by the past.

Things between the two took a dark turn in the finale when Stella’s high school friend Tyler (Tye White) returned—and Severide was not happy. He insists that the former athlete wants to date Stella, while she argues that Severide is just jealous. We see the couple get in one last fight, and Severide says, “I don’t know what you want from me,” before walking away. Then, the end of the episode shows Stella out on what looks like a date with Tyler.

Joe Cruz’s girlfriend faces death.
Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie) joined the Firehouse 51 squad earlier this season as a cheerful, enthusiastic office worker. She had her eye on Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso), who was recovering emotionally from a series of missteps with former flames, and sparks flew quickly between them. Their budding relationship was threatened just minutes into the finale when Chloe got into a car accident while on the phone with Cruz.

The team rushes to the freeway where they find Chloe badly injured and trapped in a massive car pile-up. By the end of the episode, we find out she’s going to be okay—but not without a few emotional moments between her, Cruz, and her parents that suggest their relationship might end up being more serious than we’d guessed.

Brett is ready to move on.
Sylvie Brett faced a lot of struggles over the past few seasons. The buildup of stress from her on-again-off-again relationship with Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) and the dramatic departure of her former partner and best friend, Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) left Brett reeling—and she ended season six with a mental breakdown in her car. Season 7 was all about learning to move on for Brett, and the finale closed out with her doing just that. She took her ongoing flirtation with Chaplain Kyle Sheffield to the next level and asked him on a date—which he happily accepted. Looks like Brett is finally ready to be Paramedic in Charge, on the job and in her personal life.

Things heat up between Casey and Naomi.
While Dawson’s exit was tough on Brett, it was devastating for her husband, Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer). After the couple got a divorce, a new love interest for Casey was introduced: Naomi Graham (Kate Villanova). The three episodes that Naomi already appeared in clearly set the stage for their romance, and then things really heated up between the pair—literally.

The biggest moment of the episode came after Naomi and Casey continued their joint attempt to bring down a dangerous trailer manufacturer. After a winning moment during a meeting with the enemy company, they ended up taking things to the next level. The devastating twist that Chicago Fire fans were promised came next, when Casey got up from bed and found Naomi’s entire apartment on fire.

We’re not sure what this means for Naomi or Casey, but we do know we’ll be tuning in when the series returns to find out!
