Chicago Fire Casting Dermot Mulroney Redeems Network TV Role From 5 Years Ago

Chicago Fire’s Dermot Mulroney appears to have redeemed the role he played

five years ago. Chicago Fire has had a long and popular run, airing over 250 episodes

and being part of the One Chicago universe, which includes a number of different

shows all connected to each other. Over the years, the Chicago Fire cast has largely remained the same, with a few changes here and there. However, the upcoming season will change the show in a big way. Chicago Fire season 13 marks the start of a new Fire Chief 51, as Dermot Mulroney has been cast as Chief Boden. Eammon Walker, who plays Chief Boden, was the first actor and producer Dick Wolf tapped to introduce the fire department in his One Chicago series. Having starred in Chicago Fire since its first episode in 2012, Boden has been a fixture in the franchise for quite some time. So when Boden stepped down as Chief of Police in the season 12 finale, becoming First Deputy Chief, fans were in for a shock.

However, despite the former chief having chosen a successor, Christopher Hermann will not be replacing Boden in season 13, due to Hermann’s rank. Instead, the role will go to a new character named Dom Pascal, played by Dermot Mulroney. Dermot Mulroney’s casting as the new chief of police in Chicago Fire salvaged his role on Station 19 five years ago. Station 19 is another show set in a fire station, this time in Seattle, and is a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy. In season 2, Mulroney played a recurring role as Greg Tanner, the shady father of Ryan Tanner, a cop who works closely with firefighters in the Seattle Fire Department.

Greg was estranged from his son due to his divorce from Ryan’s mother, who kicked him out of the house, and was known for gambling and other shady criminal activities. Dermot Mulroney’s characters provide a lot of contrast. Station 19’s Greg Tanner is a criminal on the run from the police, while Dom Pascal is said to be a respected firefighter who is capable of leading others in high-pressure situations. Thus, Mulroney will be playing a role that is a contrast to his previous shady role in Station 19. Furthermore, Greg Tanner only appears as a supporting character in Station 19, while Chicago Fire’s Chief Pascal is a main character.

With Dermot Mulroney taking on a legitimate lead role in Chicago Fire, his criminal sidekick role in Station 19 has been salvaged. While Chicago Fire fans will have to wait until season 13, Dermot Mulroney has just been announced as a part of another TV show that’s coming soon. Variety reports that Starz’s The Hunting Wives will star Mulroney, alongside co-stars Evan Jonigkeit, Malin Åkerman, and Brittany Snow. The eight-episode thriller is based on a novel by May Cobb, who will serve as an executive producer, and follows a woman named Sophie and her family as they move to Texas. Mulroney will play millionaire playboy Jed Banks, who is considering a run for Governor of Texas, a stark contrast to his Chicago Fire character, Sheriff Dom Pascal.
