EastEnders have kicked off a harrowing child-to-parent
abuse storyline between Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall)
and his mum Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace). So far we’ve seen the youngster
struggle with his mum’s divorce from husband Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), and make an attempt to reunite them. The pair broke up when his sister Sam (Kim Medcalf) revealed he’d had an affair with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), and then fled with thousands of pounds of his cash. However, with Phil distancing himself from his family, and Kat adamant that they’re over, this has only fell on flat ears.
Earlier this week, he fabricated a story that Kat wanted Phil back, giving him false hope. Kat ordered Tommy home, where he punched her in the stomach and she pushed him to the floor in retaliation.
We later saw Kat reluctant to tell another of her ex-husbands, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), about his behaviour. This resulted in Tommy having the opportunity to report her to the police for child abuse.
But as Alfie is just Tommy’s adoptive father, where is his birth dad? Metro.co.uk has all the answers…
Who is Tommy’s birth father Michael Moon?
Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd) is Tommy’s dad. He joined the show in October 2010 and is Alfie’s second cousin once removed.
Whilst Kat and Alfie were in their first marriage, he was sent to prison for property fraud for six months. During this time, Kat slept with Michael and became pregnant.
Just days after he was born, Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) discovered her own son James, who was born on the same day, had died of sudden infant death syndrome.
In a panic, she swapped the babies and began to raise Tommy as her own. Kat looked at James in hospital and was convinced it wasn’t her son, but Alfie noted that he probably looked different because he had passed away.

After the truth came to light, Kat struggled to bond with her son, but Alfie agreed to give their marriage another go and vowed to raise him. With Michael not wanting any involvement in his life, Alfie adopted Tommy and put his name on his birth certificate.
What happened to Michael Moon?
Michael later married Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), and fathered her daughter Scarlett (Tabitha Byron). Things didn’t go smoothly – he lashed out when she revealed she wanted Scarlett’s surname changing to Butcher, and he pinned Janine up against the wall by her neck.

Wanting custody of the youngster, he planned to kill Janine and ordered sleeping tablets online, planning to crush them into her drink.
Alice Branning (Jasmyn Banks), who was Scarlett’s nanny, became infatuated with Michael and agreed to commit the act on his behalf so that he wouldn’t break the terms of Janine’s injunction against him.
When she realised the dosage would kill her, she decides not to go through with it, but later, on Michael’s second attempt – Janine found out. She revealed to him that Alice had come clean, with the two conspiring to frame him.

A huge row broke out, with Michael attempting to throttle Janine again. To protect her, Alice stabbed him in the back, and when the police arrived Janine continued to repeatedly stab him.
Janine lied in her police statement, saying that Alice attacked both her and Michael, and Alice was charged with murder – though both women were later found not guilty.
Does Tommy know Michael is his dad?
In 2021, Kat was forced to come clean about his parentage, after years of Tommy believing that Alfie was his real dad.

This was because Scarlett returned to Walford with her mum, and Kat felt under pressure to reveal that she was in fact Tommy’s half-sister, not his distant cousin.
Despite this, he’s always viewed Alfie as his father, until Kat’s marriage to Phil when he began to favour the Albert Square hard man instead.
