EastEnders killer Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) found a new enemy in late
wife Debbie’s mother on Tuesday, as she exposed some shocking secrets about her
son-in-law. As fans of the BBC soap know, last week saw Reiss smother his wife
Debbie– who had been in a coma since suffering a stroke years prior – to death, as he took deadly action to clear his mounting debts. Monday’s episode saw Debbie’s parents Brenda and Hugh Collins (Michael Bertenshaw and Nichola McAuliffe) arrive in Walford following their daughter’s death, with some questions for Reiss. In the latest instalment, viewers saw Brenda lift the lid on Reiss’ dark side, as she promised to get to the bottom of what happened to Debbie.
The action earlier picked up with Reiss lying to Brenda and Hugh about his relationship with partner Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), telling them she was his landlady, which upset Sonia. When Brenda later caught them in an embrace back at No. 25, he was forced to confess the truth. Later in the caff, Brenda and Hugh were horrified after they overheard a conversation between Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian), in which they discussed how Reiss had been stealing money from Debbie’s account to pay for his and Sonia’s IVF treatment. Confronting Reiss in the Square, the couple revealed to Sonia that they had been putting hundreds of pounds into the account each month, meaning that Reiss had effectively been stealing from them as well.
As Brenda and Reiss continued their showdown back at No. 25, Brenda told Reiss how prior to her stroke, Debbie was unhappy with Reiss, and believed her daughter would eventually have left him. ‘All I ever saw in you was weird little corners filled with cobwebs,’ she told him. ‘Debbie got wise to you in the end. She used to phone me up and tell me about you and your annoying little ways. She could hardly stand to be near you. It was only a matter of time before she packed up and left. ‘Tragic that she never got the chance.’ Brenda then vowed she was going to report Reiss to the police for stealing the money, adding: ‘When they start digging into you, who knows what they are going to turn up.’ With the results of Debbie’s post-mortem due back imminently, will Reiss’ killer secret be exposed?
