Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and wife Ruby (Beth Cordingly) have swooped
in on their next victim in Emmerdale – and it’s none other than Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson).
As viewers of the ITV soap know, Jai is currently going through a tough divorce from wife
Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy). She ended their relationship after discovering he’d attacked his father Amit (Amil Goutam), had blackmailed Pollard (Chris Chittell), and had conned half-brother Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) out of his inheritance money. He then decided he would try and strip her of her very comfortable lifestyle, and was horrified when she suggested that they divide their assets. In response, she decided to play him at his own game, and approached her step-daughter Gabby (Rosie Bentham) with a view to buying his shares in The Hide restaurant. In tonight’s episode, ahead of a mediation session, Laurel reminisced with Gabby about her late husband Ashley, and became more determined than ever to not back down with Jai.
Later, she bumped into Ruby and the two women discussed how similar their husbands are… After turning up late to the meeting, Jai made his plans very clear by informing Laurel that he’d sold Holdgate Farm, the large Georgian property on the outskirts of the village where he once lived, to his sister Priya. He also told her that he’d sold Tenants Cottage to Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). She suddenly became fearful of her future, wondering whether she would lose her own home as he was now seemingly ‘skint’. Jai acted innocent as said that honesty was the best policy, but we later saw him at Mill Cottage laughing with Caleb about the situation. As he began to wonder whether he was doing the right thing, Caleb dropped poison into his ear and offered reassurance. However, as he left, Ruby approached her scheming hubby, who told her that he‘almost feels sorry for him’. The two laughed and it became clear that he had an ulterior motive.
