Coronation Street viewers are speculating about a potential new love interest for Glenda Shuttleworth, played by Jodie Prenger, and a returning soap legend.
Glenda first arrived in Weatherfield in 2022 as the daughter of soap icon Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd) and sister to George (Tony Maudsley), the local undertaker.
The Rovers Return barmaid quickly became a fan favourite and has been involved in numerous major storylines over the years.
From an unexpected break-in at the Rovers to a family dispute over the Shuttleworth empire, Glenda’s life has been anything but quiet recently. This week on the soap, Glenda was thrilled to become the new manager of the Rovers Return.
As viewers will remember, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) had to relinquish control of the iconic pub after failing to repay Carla Connor (Alison King), who decided to sell it.
Consequently, Jenny ended her tenure at the Rovers and has since found employment at The Kabin. In Monday’s episode (May 12), with Jenny no longer in charge, Carla offered the managerial role to Ryan (Ryan Prescott), who had just accepted a job with Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), reports Leicestershire Live.
Carla then chose Brenda for the position, much to her delight. She immediately got stuck in, performing several songs for the pub-goers later on.
Fans of Coronation Street are buzzing with speculation about Glenda’s personal life, predicting that it’s on the upswing due to her flourishing career. On a fan page dedicated to the soap, viewers have been piecing together who could be her next romantic partner.
One fan expressed their excitement: “It’s about time Glenda is having a storyline, always liked her. All she needs now is some romance!” Conversations sparked in the comments section with fans suggesting that Peter Barlow, portrayed by Chris Gascoyne, might make an exciting return as her new love interest.
Their predictions came in confident tones: “Peter Barlow! They would be good together.” Another chimed in with enthusiasm: “Yeah, he could come back and help her run the Rovers.” And one more boldly proclaimed: “He used to run it back in the day so never say never..”
Soap icon Peter, who first graced our screens in 1965 and is the offspring of the legendary Ken (acted by William Roache), has been central to many major plotlines on the show. His last appearance was noted to be in 2023.
