Emmerdale‘s Cain Dingle comes out fighting tonight as he wrongly faces suspicion over Nate Robinson’s murder.
Cain quickly becomes the prime suspect as the police start to investigate Nate’s grisly demise – and immediately focus on the wrong people.
As detectives confirm that the body found in the lake is Nate, there’s little time for Cain to grieve for his son as he’s hauled down to the station for questioning.
There’s big trouble for the village bad boy when he fails to immediately come clean about the fight he had with Nate shortly before his disappearance.
Once other key witnesses mention this among Nate’s last known movements, it makes Cain look like he has something to hide.
Fortunately, Cain has an ace up his sleeve – letting the detectives know that he tried to phone Nate at the end of April.
“His phone – I called him a few weeks ago on his mobile and someone answered,” Cain explains.
“I don’t know [who it was] – they didn’t say anything. But whoever’s done this, they were listening to his messages.”
Handing over the proof on his phone log, he adds: “Why would I call him if I knew he was dead? Now that you’ve got some actual evidence, can you let me go?”
Fans can see more about how the investigation plays out when the episode airs at 7pm on ITV1 tonight, or it’s also streaming early now on ITVX.
Over the coming weeks, viewers will see the Emmerdale villagers turn on each other as speculation and theories circulate over who killed Nate.
John Sugden – the real killer – returns home next week and tries to cover his tracks.
Meanwhile, Nate’s estranged wife Tracy Robinson also faces suspicion and becomes desperate to clear her name.
