Emmerdale follow-up: As Robert heads back to prison, here’s when he’ll return to the village for good

Robert Sugden headed back behind bars this evening (Friday, May 30), but this won’t be the end of his return scenes in Emmerdale.

Aaron might’ve married John Sugden tonight, but Robert’s not going to be keeping his distance from his former husband.

Here’s all we know about his upcoming return as Ryan Hawley confirms that he’s ‘back for good.’

Robert Sugden’s return to prison in Emmerdale

This week, Robert shocked everyone by returning to the Dales and gatecrashing Aaron and John’s wedding.

He turned up unannounced just before the couple said their vows, hoping that he could stop Aaron from marrying John.

However, Aaron ultimately chose John tonight and went ahead with the wedding while Robert sat at the bus stop feeling sorry for himself.

PC Swirling then turned up and arrested Robert for breaking his probation rules. Robert had missed his probation meeting to stop the wedding, now realising that it ‘wasn’t worth it.’

Later on, with Aaron and John celebrating their marriage, Robert rang Vic from the prison to tell her that he was probably going to be locked up for a while…

Here’s when Robert will come back to the village ‘for good’

After Robert’s initial return scenes, actor Ryan Hawley admitted that Robert is back ‘for good.’

He’ll be back in prison for a short while, but will then come back to the village permanently.

He told the Mirror: “The secret is out today! My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John’s wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again.”

He’s expected to be properly back this summer (which is only a short amount of time away), with a source telling The Sun: “It will soon become clear that Robert’s freedom isn’t all that it seems and he will end up back behind bars for a little while.

“His full-time return will come later in the summer and it’s set to be explosive.”

People who miss a probation meeting can usually remain behind bars for up to 28 days meaning that it’s only a matter of weeks before Robert should be back in the village… But, what drama will he cause upon his return?
