Emmerdale’s John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is an interesting kind of killer and attempted killer as he seems to have a conscience.

On the one hand he’s happy to dish out threats to comatose Aidan and attempt to take nasty revenge on Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). But Harry getting ill from the slurry spill has left him in a spiral of his own guilt, as has the lies he’s telling his beloved Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).

But when backed into a corner, he knows he has to act.

While at the hospital visiting Harry, John is accosted by Cathleen, Aidan’s mum, who assumes he’s there due to the news about his former lover who is in a coma. She begs him to go with her to Aidan’s ward, leaving John panicked that things are starting to unravel for him.

His plan now is to get Harry out of the hospital as fast as possible and away from Aidain, but with the child still very ill and needing help, it’s a difficult task.

John is right to worry – at the mention of his name, Aidan’s eyes fly open. While John is currently unaware of this, it is his worst nightmare coming true. Having spent weeks whispering in Aidan’s ear that he’ll bump him off if he has to, Aidan is now the one person who can expose John’s true colours.

Word gets back to John and thus begins John’s dangerous mission – to visit Aidan and assess how much he knows. Has he heard John’s mumbled threats? Does he remember what John did that put him in a coma?

It appears at first that Aidan is non-verbal, which suggests John might be in the clear. But Aidan has already broken the odds in coming out of his coma, it’s too much of a risk to keep him alive.

That and the fact that Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor Draper) is doing some digging, and she’s unwittingly threatening to unearth John’s secrets.

Who will John shut up first?
