Coronation Street has aired a life-changing cliffhanger for Kit Green in today’s flashback episode.

Taking place in 2007 and the present day, today’s special episode took a closer look at Kit’s friendship with Mick and Lou Michaelis when they were teenagers.

In the present day, following the fight between Gary and Mick, Gary and Maria confronted Kit in the café, accusing him of being corrupt while Bernie watched on.

During flashback scenes, teenage Mick and Kit stole from a shop. After returning to pay for the items, the shopkeeper labelled Mick’s family scum.

On Kit’s insistence, the boys pushed a lit firework through the letterbox causing a fire and injuring the shopkeeper’s wife.

Mick was arrested by the police and sent to a Secure Training Centre (STC), while Kit remained free and able to pursue his own career in the police.

In the present day, Bernie called in at Kit’s flat where she told him that she knew something terrible happened years ago and that Mick was blackmailing him as a result.

Later, Kit opened up to Bernie about the fateful day, telling her that he did a runner and left Mick to take the blame.

Meanwhile, Lou barged into Kit’s flat after finding out he had been fighting with Mick. “Kit, tell me the truth,” Lou said to Kit. “Does he know what happened when he were inside?”

In another flashback, Lou told Kit she was worried Mick would find out what went on between them when he was in prison, before attempting to tell Kit something and giving up.

“If Mick finds out what we’ve been doing while he’s been stuck inside, he’d kill us,” teenage Lou said to Kit.

Later, when Kit overheard Mick and Lou discussing their son’s birthday, he looked at Lou and realised with horror that he could be fifteen-year-old Brody’s biological father.
