With the news that Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be coming together for a crossover episode, fans are concerned that it won’t work well.
The special crossover episode will help to launch the new soap power hour next year. The power hour will see both soaps airing for half hour, back to back, five days a week.
Some fans have expressed dismay at the crossover news, and begged producers not to ruin Emmerdale.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover announced
Earlier this week, ITV confirmed a special Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover episode would be coming next year.
A press release explained: “For the first time in British soap history, the hour-long episode will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre.
“To herald the beginning of the new scheduling pattern, both soaps will mark the occasion in spectacular style, as the combined production teams embark on an ambitious stunt that will have everlasting consequences for everyone involved.
“The distinctive worlds of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will merge for one night only in a ‘mash-up’ of our two favourite communities.
“Producers, scriptwriters and production teams have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes. But with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire.”
Viewers will also have the chance to get involved as they will be given the opportunity to choose which two characters – one from each soap – they would like to see meet and interact.

Fans beg ‘don’t ruin Emmerdale’
Despite only being a one off episode, Emmerdale fans have raised concerns that the crossover won’t be good for the soap.
Taking to Facebook, one fan wrote: “Don’t ruin Emmerdale with Coronation St.” While another added: “Rubbish idea.”
A third fan wrote: “They are ok the way they are, you don’t change perfection.”
A fourth fan brought up the point that not everyone watches both soaps and a crossover could be confusing for those people. They added: “Don’t like or watch Coronation St. Don’t try to mix them up… no point!”
