What happened in Emmerdale tonight (Monday): Dawn confessed to attacking Joe as the police arrested Billy

Dawn Fletcher confessed to pushing Joe Tate out of the window in Emmerdale tonight (Monday, May 12), as Billy was arrested over the crime. Released from the station after Dawn offered a false alibi, Billy headed to Home Farm, where he demanded answers.

And he got far more than he bargained for as Dawn confessed to attacking Joe. But is she telling the truth?

Elsewhere, after being questioned by DS Dasari, Kerry admitted the truth to Pollard and Matty, and Charity continued to act shiftily. And, in the wake of her confession to Liam, Manpreet was feeling guilty.

Meanwhile, Liam made a big move and Ross was rejected (twice). Here’s everything that happened on Emmerdale tonight.

The suspects were questioned in Emmerdale tonight

DS Dasari was hard at work questioning the many suspects in Joe Tate’s attack. First up, Dawn, who inadvertently dropped Billy in it by mentioning his upset over the affair.

Then, Chas admitted that she had nothing but bad feeling toward Joe for his part in Noah’s spiking. Kerry, too, was happy to admit that she’d quite happily kill him for what he’d done.

All questioned parties had alibis, even if not all of them were particularly compelling, believable or (in Kerry’s case) true. However, there was one common thread – and everyone was keen to suggest that Billy could have done it.

Especially Noah, who claimed that he’d seen someone of Billy’s build fleeing the scene of the crime. That was enough for Dasari, who headed over to the depot to confront Billy.

The police arrested Billy in Emmerdale tonight

Angrily heaving boxes about the depot, Billy insisted that he’d gone straight to bed after the party. But, when Dasari demanded a copy of his cottage’s door cam to corroborate, Billy was forced to change his story – now saying he’d gone for a run in the woods.

With Billy’s story falling apart, Dasari hauled him into the station for further questioning. In an interview room, the police questioned Billy over his temper. Painting Billy as a man boiling over with rage, the detective suggested he had been responsible for the attack. And worse, there was evidence too, between Noah’s eyewitness account, and Billy’s fingerprints in Joe’s room.

Billy was unable to explain how his fingerprints had come to be in Joe’s room, but remained profuse in his rebuttal of the accusations. But Dasari was having none of it, formally arresting Billy for attempted murder.

As he walked Billy to his cell, Dasari advised Billy to think about his family – and consider confessing.

Ross was rejected… twice

In The Woolpack, Ross advised a heartbroken Ryan that he needed to purge his phone of all evidence of Gail, and told him to move on to all the other fish in the sea.

Putting his money where his mouth was (Steph who?) Ross spotted his next mark, and headed over to flirt with a new arrival at the Woolpack. Introducing himself to Shanice, he learned that she was in town to arrange a hen do for her best pal.

He returned to the pub a few hours later, informing Chas that he’d been sacked following Joe’s attack. He then continued in his self-imposed mission to help Ryan move on. With Shanice not responding to his messages, he hit up Manpreet instead, but was given a rather brusque brush off.

Licking his wounds, he returned to Ryan, who had witnessed the whole humiliating exchange.

Manpreet tried to make amends as Liam made a move

Encountering Liam in the street, Manpreet collared the doctor for a chat about their discussion last week. He still felt hurt and betrayed, but promised to keep his mouth shut – mostly because they’d be shut down if he did say anything.

Sending Manpreet packing, he was shocked to return home to find Mandy in a state of undress. Back at work, things were still frosty between him and Manpreet, who was desperate to make amends for what she’d done.

Also desperate to make amends – Mandy, who didn’t want things to be weird between them after, well, whatever it was he’d caught her doing. But the damage had been done and, later, he put forth a suggestion to Chas that he move into the Woolpack with her.

Chas, on her part, was more than happy to agree. And, as Mandy swung by for a drink, Liam shared the news of his move.

Kerry was caught red-handed in Emmerdale tonight

After covering for her in their interview with Dasari, Pollard and Matty returned home to find Kerry still acting shiftily. Recovering whatever it was she’d stashed on Friday, she was caught red-handed and forced to show them what she’d been hiding.

No, not a gun or other murder weapon – Kerry admitted that had returned to Home Farm. But, instead of pushing Joe, she’d found and stole back the topper from Amy and Matty’s wedding cake (which one of the kids must have, in turn, nicked).

Breaking down in tears, she revealed how guilty she still felt over missing the wedding. Beseeching Matty keep the cake topper, she admitted she’d only kept it hidden out of fear of upsetting him. And, while she had gone to confront Joe, she’d ultimately changed her mind, for Amy’s sake.

Charity’s hiding something

After their interview, Charity sidled up to Noah in the Woolpack. She told him not to say anything more about her whereabouts when Joe was attacked, leaving him more suspicious than ever.

Charity swore that she had nothing to do with the attack – but is she telling the truth?

Dawn admitted the truth in Emmerdale tonight

Stewing in his cell, Billy re-iterated that he had no intention of confessing to attacking Joe. However, Dasari wasn’t here for that this time – no, there’d been a development, and he was a free man!

Released, Billy returned to Home Farm, where Dawn and Clemmie were waiting. He learned that Dawn had given the police an alibi – telling them that they’d been in bed together at the time.

But why would she give him an alibi? And how could she be so sure of his innocence? Convinced that Dawn was covering for someone, Billy continued to press the matter, causing her to lash out with a cruel comment about his obliviousness to the affair.

No matter, the damage was done. And, as Billy began to question whether she was protecting Clemmie, Dawn blurted out the truth – she’d pushed Joe Tate.
