Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw has teased the end of the road for John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) – as his ex-fiancé Aidan Moore wakes from his comatose state.
John has settled into village life, striking up a relationship with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), and getting to know his estranged sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins).
However, before long, the skeletons in his closet began to emerge.
Things changed for the character when he opened up about Aidan Moore, a colleague from his army days.
John confessed that Aidan died when a bomb was detonated, though it soon transpired that he wasn’t being exactly truthful.
Victoria did some digging and met up with John’s old pal Connor, who revealed that Aidan was still very much alive, and is in a Leeds hospital. She made her way over and was shocked to see him lay in a bed – albeit unconscious.
The soldier was badly injured while on patrol in Afghanistan, with John desperately trying to save his life.
With Aidan’s brain starved of oxygen, he was placed into a coma as his mother, Cathleen, doted at his bedside.
On a recent visit to his poorly friend, John menacingly whispered in his ear that he would have to do away with him.
Secrets are set to be exposed in upcoming scenes, as Aidan wakes up during the week John and Aaron are set to walk down the aisle.
‘We’ve got a wedding coming up – Aaron and John. I’ve just signed off on those episodes in the edit suite and they’re very brilliant and exciting’ Laura teased.
‘John is full of trepidation heading into his wedding, worrying about all of the secrets that might get exposed along the way.
‘The wedding plays out across the whole week – Monday to Friday is one day – we have some stylistic fun in there such as John’s nightmares.’

She continued: ‘We’ve got Aidan in a coma, and I can tell you he’s not going to be in that coma forever.
‘What secrets could he bring with him? Is he going to walk in and ruin the wedding?’
Laura also added that the threat of Nate Robinson’s body being found looms large. He was killed by John last year, and has been at the bottom of a lake ever since.
‘He won’t stay there forever’ she added.
‘When John finds out the lake is being dredged, will he make it to his vows Will he be arrested?
