Coronation Street viewers are forecasting an unexpected romance for George Shuttleworth with a surprising resident of the cobbles.
George, portrayed by Tony Maudsley, has been a constant presence on the soap since his debut in 2020. As the son of the late undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, played by Roy Hudd, George has quickly become a fan favourite.
He’s also been involved in several major storylines, including his relationship with Eileen Grimshaw, played by Sue Cleaver. However, it seems there’s been some turbulence in their love life recently.
As viewers will remember, Eileen’s sister Julie Carp, played by Katy Cavanagh, returned this year after a decade away. Julie, who is terminally ill with cancer, has come back as part of Eileen’s exit storyline.
Recently on the cobbles, Eileen’s priorities have shifted, leading her to question her relationship with George, reports Leicestershire Live.
In Wednesday’s episode (April 23), she was overjoyed when Brian Packham, played by Peter Gunn, confessed his feelings for her sister.
Before Brian’s love confession, he sought advice from George about whether to tell Julie he wanted to be with her.
George advised him not to make any hasty decisions given Julie’s health and urged him to proceed with caution.
When Eileen discovered George’s counsel, she was livid and accused him of trying to ruin Brian and Julie’s final chance at happiness together in her last weeks.
Adding fuel to the fire, spoilers for next week reveal that George learns Eileen is growing tired of him.
Coronation Street fans are all abuzz, convinced they’ve figured out George Shuttleworth’s next romantic twist post his looming breakup with Eileen. On a Corrie fan page on Facebook, speculation is rife.
A user proposed: “Anyone else think Eileen is going to split up with George before leaving?” Another joined the conjecture, endorsing the idea of Mary Taylor (portrayed by Patti Clare) as George’s comfort: “I’ve always thought a Brian and a George romance would be good.”
Echoing the sentiment, another fan concurred: “100% especially after watching them this week.” While another endorsed the theory: “You’re probably right.”
