Coronation Street’s beloved actor, John Thomson, has confessed he’s on the hunt for love following a “tough” breakup, but was surprisingly turned down by a well-known celebrity dating app.
Thomson, 56, is widely recognised for his role as Jesse Chadwick in the popular ITV soap. His character first graced our screens in December 2008 and became a regular face the subsequent year.
During his tenure, he famously romanced Corrie icon Eileen Grimshaw (played by Sue Cleaver), as well as her sister Julie Carp (portrayed by Katy Cavanagh).
However, in 2010, Jesse bid farewell to Weatherfield. The character made an unexpected comeback in October of last year, featuring in Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) departure plot.
It transpired that Jesse had sparked a romance with Gail years ago while they were holidaying overseas. In hopes of reigniting their relationship, he returned to Weatherfield for her, reports Leicestershire Live.
The duo quickly fell madly in love once more, culminating in a Christmas Day wedding, before Gail departed the cobbles after a 50-year stint.
Off-screen, however, John recently divulged his personal struggles in his romantic life.
Having been single for the past year, following the conclusion of a five-year relationship, the soap star is eager to re-enter the dating scene.
“I’m recently single, last year. I’ve been a year single. It’s hard, really tough. We move on. It was five years that relationship so it took it out of me,” he revealed on the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast.
John confessed, “I’ve given it a year so I’m single and just about ready to mingle. Five years is a long time.”
He continued by sharing that his efforts to get on the exclusive celebrity dating app haven’t gone as planned: “I would go on a dating app, but Raya won’t have me.
“You know it’s celebs date celebs, they won’t go near me.”
John further explained his struggle with getting onto the A-list platform, “I’m on a waiting list, I’ve got 15 referrals and they still won’t have me. I’d like to date people in the industry.”
