Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has recalled the moment he was left ‘hanging over a bridge’ after suffering a horror car crash on the M62.

The actor, who is famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, was heard discussing the incident in the Celebrity Big Brother house after signing up for his first reality show since debuting in Corrie 25 years ago.

Speaking to his housemates as they sat around the kitchen table, Jack shared that he was on the road when he completely totalled his car in the smash.

“I had a big car accident on M62. Yeah, just getting onto the slip road at M62, I f**king skidded, spinned, and went through a barrier, and I was hanging over a bridge for M62,” he told his new co-stars.

“The car was a f**king Italian job,” he recalled as his fellow housemates gasped in horror, and as Jack began to open up, his co-stars quickly pitched in with their own car-related horrors.

But that wasn’t the only bit of personal talk Jack was heard having during the latest installment of CBB on Wednesday night (April 16) as he revealed how he almost landed another role which would have completely changed the trajectory of his career – and likely kept him off the cobbles.

Jack shared with TOWIE’s Ella Rae Wise, Love Island’s Chris Hughes, Chesney Hawkes, Donna Preston and JoJo Siwa that his career almost lookd very different as he made it to the final four actors to play Harry Potter.

As they sat round and played the game ‘two truths one lie’, the soap star asked his fellow housemates to guess which hit movie he wasn’t almost cast in as he listed three iconic names.

The actor told the house that he auditioned for Gladiator, Harry Potter and Billy Elliot. JoJo guessed correctly as he shared that he didn’t go up for Gladiator. However, they were shocked to learn he was close to scoring Harry Potter and Billy Elliot as a child.

Meanwhile, Jack has been heard saying how he could “easily” star in Corrie for another 25 years. Ahead of going into the CBB house, the 37-year-old evealed that he is willing to stay on the ITV soap for a long time to come if there are enough storylines for his character.

In an interview with Inside Soap magazine, Jack said: “Easily. If the Platts are still thereabouts and we’re getting storylines, I don’t see why not if the show still likes the character and the audience do, too.”

But the star admitted that he wouldn’t want to be friends with his soap alter ego as David has “way too much baggage” for his liking. Jack said: “No, he has way too much baggage! Things stress him out fast and he gets so annoyed at the slightest thing.

“I suppose we’re similar in terms of taking the mickey out of situations, but I do it in a more lovable way. I don’t really cut people down or make people feel bad about themselves in the way he does.”

David’s antics have often landed him in trouble during his time in Weatherfield but Jack believes that the various sides to the character’s personality allows others to forgive him for his wrongdoings.

He said: “Luckily, he has lots of sides to his character. He can be aggressive and nasty, but in the next episode, you can be laughing at him. You forget the bad stuff he does quickly.”
