EastEnders’ Sonia Fowler, a fan favourite, has finally met her biological father, Terry Cant.
In previous spoilers, it was hinted that Sonia, portrayed by Natalie Cassidy, would be visited by an unknown individual, and the mystery was unravelled in Monday’s (April 14) episode of the BBC One soap.
Sonia was taken aback when she found out that her sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) had secretly appeared on a true crime podcast to discuss Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman).
In today’s episode, Sonia was troubled by Mo and Kim’s tactless tour for true crime enthusiasts, and she expressed concern about its potential impact on baby Julia in the future.
After reconciling their differences, Bianca and Sonia decided to unwind at Harry’s Barn with a drink as they started planning for what lies ahead, reports Plymouth Live.
Bianca noticed a man from the tour lurking nearby and decided to confront him. It was then revealed that the man is her mother Carol’s former boyfriend – and Sonia’s biological father – Terry Cant.
Terry explained that he felt compelled to reconnect after listening to the podcast and wanted to makeup for lost time. However, Bianca, aware of his past behaviour from her mother, advised him to keep his distance.
Despite this, Terry showed up at Sonia’s doorstep and introduced himself to his stunned daughter. How will Sonia react to this unexpected revelation?
Who is Terry Cant in EastEnders?
Terry is Carol Jackson’s (Lindsey Coulson) ex-partner, Sonia’s father, and the grandfather of Bex and Julia.
Terry Cant, a character who was first mentioned in EastEnders back in March 1995 but had never been seen on screen until recently, has a complex history with the show’s characters. He met Carol Jackson in 1984 and they quickly started a relationship.
At the time, Carol already had two children, Bianca and Robbie Jackson (played by Dean Gaffney), and Terry stepped into the role of father figure as their biological fathers were absent.
Despite constant arguments between Terry and Carol, they had a daughter together, Sonia. However, after Sonia’s birth, Terry left and Carol’s husband, Alan Jackson, took in her children and raised them as his own.
Terry Cant identity twist
In a twist of events, fans will recall that Sonia searched for Terry online in June 2020, hoping to reconnect with her long-absent father. By May 2021, Terry arrived in the Square after receiving a letter from Sonia, leading to a reunion and bonding period between father and daughter.
However, in September of the same year, it was revealed that the man claiming to be Terry was actually Tom (Rocky) Cotton, the dubious uncle of Dotty Cotton, played by Brian Conley. His plan was to swindle Sonia out of Dot Cotton’s inheritance.
Who plays Terry Cant in EastEnders?
The character of Terry Cant is portrayed by actor Glen Davies. This isn’t his first stint on EastEnders; he has played several minor roles from 1995 to 2023, including Mervyn Dale, a journalist with the Walford Gazette.
When Arthur Fowler was taken into custody for embezzlement in 1995, Mervyn penned an article about the supposed theft, insinuating that Arthur required the money to maintain his long-term mistress, Christine Hewitt.
Glen has previously showcased his acting skills in ITV’s rival soap Emmerdale, where he portrayed an Enforcement Officer in 2013, and also took on the role of Silas Jukes in the BBC medical drama Doctors in 2018.
