Who is Coronation Street’s Carl Webster as new character arrives in Weatherfield

Coronation Street welcomed a new face as Carl Webster showed up in Weatherfield after a minor collision with Abi Wester.

During recent weeks, Kevin Webster learned that he had testicular cancer. After receiving a serious operation to remove the testicle, he has since undergone sessions of chemotherapy.

He’s been noticeably struggling to cope as he started pushing his loved ones away, picking fights with best friend Tyrone Dobbs, wife Abi and even his son Jack.

It’s been an emotional week in Weatherfield as Debbie Webster was referred to have medical tests done as she was told she could have early on-set vascular dementia.

Abi has recently been battling her own demons as she was diagnosed with PTSD from the brutal death of her eldest son, Seb. He was murdered during a hate crime assault on both him and his girlfriend Nina Lucas.

She started hallucinating Seb in front of her, looking exactly how he did on the night he died. The visions escalated after she tried to save Mason Radcliffe amid the stabbing that led to his death.

After getting into a heated argument, Abi punches Carl, giving him a bloodied nose. She offers to fix his car once it refuses to start, and instead Carl asks to take her out for a drink.

Later, after sharing the story with Kevin and Debbie – missing out the flirting – she’s in shock as she sees Carl chatting to them and realises he’s their little brother. He has yet to appear on the show until now, but has been mentioned previously.

Actor Jonathan Howard who portrays Carl, teased: “I don’t think Carl is going to be too bad but I don’t think he’s going to be good either, I think his heart is in the right place but he might be holding on to some resentment towards his brother because he’s left him to be on his own his whole life.”

On Carl’s antics with the ladies Jonathan said: “He’s maybe a little bit selfish, especially between his trousers sometimes!”
