In Emmerdale tonight (April 9) viewers were left asking who is in the hospital bed that John visited? And there are a whole lot of possibilities.

It was revealed last weekend that viewers will finally learn the truth about John’s life, and the secrets that he is keeping.

Yesterday (April 8) John misdiagnosed Kerry at the doctors, telling her she was just hungover. In reality it was far more severe and Liam was incredibly unamused. And tonight, the fall-out continued, as we got another peek into John’s life. But now we have some questions.

What happened with John tonight?

In Emmerdale tonight, John stayed on edge, having slept on the sofa all night.

Liam told John that he is looking over everyone he has seen over the last two weeks, leaving John absolutely fuming.

Later, John opened up to Victoria about his time as an army medic. He told her about this one patient who had a “really bad” reaction to the medication John had given him.

Victoria tried to reassure him, telling him about the time she almost killed Jacob due to his nut allergy. And while she remained confident that the chat helped, John became even more suspicious.

He went to the hospital and by the looks of things, he definitely knew the mystery man in a coma. Sitting at his bedside, John asked: “You and me, what are we going to do? Or what am I going to have to do?” – not menacing at all, John!

While it remains unknown exactly who the man in a coma is, there are quite a few possibilities.

An immediate theory is this is the mystery Aidan Moore that John was keeping secret when he first arrived in the village.

Yes, he told Aaron that Aidan had died. But perhaps that was just one big lie and the man John claimed to love once is actually just in a coma.

If this is the case, then Aidan has been in a coma for a while, and John hasn’t stopped visiting him for a reason.

Could he have been responsible and is making sure Aidan doesn’t get to tell anyone? Or does he still love him?

2. The real John Sugden

Another extremely popular theory is that John is not John. In reality many believe he is an imposter who stole John Sugden’s identity.

So if this is the case, then John could be the one in the coma? And is the John we have known actually Aidan Moore? If so, it would mean keeping John in a coma is important to his secret staying quiet.

Or perhaps whoever he really is wanted go against John’s family for him. Maybe they are actually in love and he feels that this is his only way to help.

3. Emmerdale Who is in the hospital bed? Another army friend?

John had just opened up to Victoria about messing up in the army. And he never said the guy died – just that he had a bad reaction.

Has that bad reaction landed him in a coma?

4. Is it another family member in the hospital bed?

It’s entirely possible that there are more Sugden’s out there. Let’s face it – it’s Emmerdale. But perhaps John and the mystery man grew up together, and now he feels that he has lost his brother.

The only way he could move forward may have been to find the rest of their family. If that’s the truth, then it brings the question of why John hasn’t told Victoria about him. So either way it definitely looks like there is more than meets the eye.

It appears a lot of John’s secrets are on the brink of being revealed to us. So let’s hope it’s not too long before Emmerdale reveal who is in the hospital bed.
