John Sugden lost control in a dramatic scene on Emmerdale as details of his past were gradually revealed.
The character, the son of Jack and half-sister of Victoria, arrived in the Dales back in August. He started a relationship with Aaron Dingle that has seen them recently become engaged.
Despite his popularity amongst the village, little of John’s backstory has been divulged, though it was recently confirmed by bosses of the ITV soap that the character’s darker side would be explored.
Tuesday’s (April 8) episode began with Aaron expressing his desire to “get the ball rolling” regarding their wedding day, though a beleaguered John said he wasn’t currently feeling up to it given his recent sleep troubles.
Aaron pressed his fiancé on the matter after noticing that he had been speaking in his sleep, though John reasoned that it was the residual effects of covering up the murder of Anthony Fox. Aaron, however, remained unconvinced.
A flustered John continued to act strangely at work, with the doctor uncharacteristically making an error as he failed to check Kerry’s blood sugar levels. Mistaking her ailment for a hangover, John was ordered to stay behind by Liam, who took Kerry to the hospital for treatment.
A stressed John returned home as he vented to Aaron, who urged him to stop “putting so much pressure” on himself for a one-off mistake, reasoning that he “couldn’t be the hero every day”. John, who was still visibly frustrated, headed out alone for a walk to clear his head.
After calling Aaron to apologise for his bluntness earlier in the day, John took his frustration out on an abandoned car at the scrapyard, smashing a hole in the windscreen as he lost control; what exactly is he hiding?
