John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) cool, calm and collected approach to life might well be a façade, as upcoming episodes of Emmerdale will see him make a huge mistake at work.
Introduced as Vic’s (Isabel Hodgins) long-lost brother, John has history working in the army. This proved to be quite helpful recently in the soap, as he jumped at the chance of helping his boyfriend Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
After attacking Anthony Fox, Aaron and John returned to the depot and discovered he was dead. Aaron believed he had killed the old man and spiralled into a panic.
This allowed John to sweep in and sort the situation out for Aaron. He wrapped Anthony’s body up and disposed of it, later revealing to the people who know about his death that he’s buried in the woods.
His hero complex was highlighted again when he found Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) on the floor after collapsing in the pub. John set about helping Chas and getting her rushed to hospital, later looking like a brilliant person for finding her in time.
This coming week, John’s mask starts to slip as Liam (Jonny McPherson) realises he has misdiagnosed Kerry (Laura Norton).
As a result, the doctor then tells John that he’s going to review all of his work at the surgery so far.
Frustrated, John opens up to Vic about some of the mistakes he’s made as a medic. Wanting to help, Vic shares her own professional blunders and tells her brother that he should forgive himself.
In the week, John is tested as he finds Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) going into anaphylactic shock after drinking the wrong coffee.
As Vic panics, John checks for a pulse – but can he prove himself capable one more time?
