So who is the one causing all this trouble and framing poor Ella? Why, John Sugden of course – at least that’s what an overwhelming majority of fans reckon.

Ella ‘did not cause the trouble’ in Emmerdale – John did

In an exclusive poll run by Emmerdale Insider, fans of the soap voted who they thought was responsible for everything that had happened recently. A whopping 81 percent of them felt Ella had nothing to do with it and John has been pulling the strings.

It follows more recent theories that John and Ella are working together or that they are even secretly brother and sister. Now that would be a twist.

Ella exits Emmerdale after dramatic scenes

Thursday night (April 3) saw Ella return to Emmerdale to prove her innocence. After days of bombarding Liam with calls and messages, she decided the only way to get through to him was to confront him in person.

Knowing he wouldn’t see her, she took Mandy at knifepoint and made her get Liam there. Liam realised the situation was potentially dangerous and tried to talk her down. Pretending they had a future together if she told the truth, Liam got Ella to confess to drugging Chas. But then, when she realised he was tricking her, she said she had lied to make him love her again.

After a tense chase through the woods, Liam caught up with Ella and she ranted at him while punching and pushing him. Liam fell to the floor and hit his head on a rock. Ella believed she had killed him – just like she had Joanne – and sobbed over his body.

But Liam was okay and Ella accepted she needed help. However just as she was being led away by police she insisted: “I know I’ve hurt you and Chas, but I never drugged her, I swear. Please believe me.”

So was Ella telling the truth?

Ella has been adamant she didn’t drug Chas, nor did she cancel their wedding or throw a brick through the Woolpack window. And now she’s been arrested for holding Mandy against her will and assaulting Liam, she’s got nothing left to lose – so why not confess if she did do it?

She seems pretty genuine to us, so who else could it have been?

Like voters in our poll our money is on John Sugden, who is desperate to get Chas to like him and stay in control. What lengths has he gone to to stay in control? He had motive and means and it’s surely only a matter of time before the truth comes out.

Fans are sure it’s him, we’re sure it’s him, we just need Emmerdale to confirm our suspicions – hopefully sooner rather than later!
