EastEnders reveals mysterious Ross and Joel twist in early iPlayer release

EastEnders has aired an intriguing twist involving newcomers Ross and Joel Marshall in the show’s latest episode.

Vicki Fowler returned to the Square this week with her boyfriend Ross and his son Joel – and it soon emerged that Vicki and Ross previously had an affair behind Alfie’s brother Spencer’s back.

But the pair were trying to get their hands on money during their Walford trip to clear some debts and Vicki attempted to ask Ian for some cash.

Sharon found out about this and when she phoned Vicki’s mum Michelle, she discovered the real truth – rather than joint debts, they are Ross’s debts.

In today’s episode, Sharon demanded the truth from Vicki about the mess Ross had got her into, furious that she had lied to her again.

Vicki explained that when they got together, Ross was still married, and his divorce proved costly. He borrowed money from the “wrong people” and now needs to pay them off.

The sisters ended up in another violent argument, and Sharon concluded that Vicki wouldn’t be getting any money from her or Ian.

Meanwhile, Ross received a call from Australia, and assured the person on the phone that they would soon get their money.

Sharon confided in Linda about the situation, who suggested that these people might hurt Vicki if Ross isn’t able to stump up the cash.

This gave Sharon food for thought, and she told a delighted Vicki and Ross that she would loan them £25,000.

Elsewhere, Joel and Tommy’s friendship continued to flourish, though Alfie wasn’t pleased about their bond, considering what Joel’s dad did to Spencer.

Later, Ross and Joel had a chat in the Square, and in a surprise twist, it became clear that the debts were in fact Joel’s.

“I’m keeping my end of the bargain – now it’s up to you to keep yours,” Ross told his son. “I’m up to my eyes in debt because of you, and we don’t want anyone knowing why.”

As Ross pledged to always look after Joel, how did the teen cause the financial problems – and does even Vicki know the truth?
