Emmerdale’s Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) was in for an absolute shocker when she discovered she is pregnant with Jacob Gallagher’s (Joe-Warren Plant) baby.
It was particularly tricky news given that Jacob is in the grips of grief having just lost his mum Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), with no emotional capacity to give anything to Sarah, let alone to thoughts of an unborn baby.
‘He’s too proud an individual’, Joe-Warren Plant said recently, reflecting on why Jacob won’t completely open up to Sarah.
‘He opens up now and again but he bottles it all up, I think a lot of people struggle with the same thing really. He’s still coming to grips really and I don’t think he really likes asking for help, he wants to do it all in his own and thinks he’s got what it takes.
‘He needs to realise its okay to let people in and to allow others to aid him in his journey.’
A wedge was firmly driven between the young pair when Jacob thought Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) was the reason for the limo crash that killed his mum.
So far, Sarah has had to do this pregnancy thing alone, except for having told her gran Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).
With Sarah already facing multiple health complications, a baby is a big deal for the youngster. Charity whisks her off to the surgery to get checked out and make sure everyone involved is healthy.

But Sarah is not prepared for the outcome of what should be just a simple check-up. Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) examines Sarah and makes a heartbreaking discovery – there is no baby.
Sarah’s positive test was a false alarm and her dream of having a family suddenly slips away.
Due to her health condition, Sarah is only expected to live to her forties. For her, this baby may have been her only chance at a family.
Given that Sarah is prone to reckless behaviour, will this drive her into another spiral?
