BBC fans flooded social media to express their sorrow for the long-standing character Martin, following his tragic end under an iron beam.

The beloved Walford local bid a tearful farewell to his on-and-off partner Stacey Slater in what was a live episode.

The emotionally charged episode left viewers in tears, with some claiming they needed to “call in sick” to process Martin’s death.
One viewer humorously posted a video of a packed escalator, captioning it: “the whole of the UK right now on their way to complain to Ofcom for killing off our beloved Martin.”
Another fan expressed their intent to contact Ofcom: “Ringing Ofcom to claim compensation for the EastEnders writers killing off Martin.”

A third lamented: “Will be taking compassionate leave from work for at least 10 working days to grieve the dearly departed Martin Fowler.”
A fourth was left traumatised: “Can I write an Ofcom complaint about that? ? ? That was so traumatic,”.
One person angrily declared: “So they killed Martin? ? Ok Ofcom will be hearing from me for the trauma they’ve caused me.”

Yet another added: “I need to talk to Ofcom about how badly I’ve been impacted by tonight’s EastEnders.”
Martin’s final moments were depicted with him being crushed by a steel beam as he heroically saved ex Stacey amidst the chaos of the Queen Vic explosion.
Paramedics administered morphine while firefighters attempted to rescue him, but to no avail.

Before the beam was lifted, Martin and Stacey had a heart-to-heart. He proposed to her, confessing his love for her in its entirety.
As they discussed their lives and potential futures – whether in Walford or elsewhere, Stacey sensed something amiss. She confronted the paramedic, demanding the truth.
He revealed that Martin was critically injured and once the beam was removed, his body would be overwhelmed with toxins. He urged her to say her piece.

Stacey found herself unable to break the news to Martin, but he figured it out. He chose to share his wedding vows with her, saying: “No pressure but I have loved this woman since the very first moment I saw her. “I thought she was the sexiest thing I’ve ever clapped my eyes on.
It’s always been Stace because she feels like home and adventure wrapped into one. “I know that this time and we are going to be in here in the Vic celebrating our anniversary in 40 years time.”
She pleaded with him to hang on and they shared a kiss before the emergency services began to lift the beam.

Martin reassured Stacey: “It’s going to be alright.”
But tragically, Martin passed away, leaving Stacey screaming in devastation for all of Walford to hear.
