Confirming her exit, EastEnders’ Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said at the time: ‘Over the last 31 years in EastEnders, Natalie has been involved in some of the show’s most iconic and explosive storylines.
‘I won’t be revealing the finite details relating to her exit, but I can say that she will take a central role in the 40th anniversary storylines in a week of truly unmissable drama that will change the lives of those in Walford forever.
‘I’d like to thank Natalie for her time at EastEnders, and I wish her all the best for the future.’

Sonia returned to Walford a few weeks ago after spending time behind bars for Debbie Colwell’s murder. The beloved character was wrongly imprisoned, with Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) actually being responsible.
Son ended up being released because Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) claimed she killed Debbie instead.
Once again, we know this was a massive cover-up story, as Bianca was actually being held hostage in a lock-up by Reiss, and only confessed to save her sibling.

As the soap’s anniversary week kicks off, Sonia and a newly returned Bianca attempt to enjoy the celebrations after Honey (Emma Barton) and Billy’s (Perry Fenwick) wedding. However, they remain unaware that Reiss is back in Walford.
Just as Bianca heads home, Reiss creeps into Number 25 and terrifies Bianca, her worst nightmare now coming true. A furious confrontation then ensues, leading to Bianca unveiling her new plan to ensure Reiss pays for all of his crimes.
Outside, worlds collide as two dramatic showdowns trigger a terrible series of events, ending with a huge explosion coming from inside the pub.

In the aftermath of the explosion – which also happens to air during the soap’s live episode – things take a nightmarish turn for Sonia, who has gone into labour in the middle of a total disaster.
There is no medical support on hand, and she simply has two traumatised people beside her.
Will Sonia and her baby survive this?
