EastEnders has revealed a devastating twist involving Phil Mitchell, as his mental health story continues to unfold.
This week, Phil’s mood declined even further and he found it difficult to engage when Nigel invited him on a double date in The Vic.
He left early and headed to the garage, where in harrowing scenes, he started the engine of a car and attempted to take his own life.
Phil changed his mind at the last minute and got out the vehicle coughing and spluttering, but he fell into the pit and was left unconscious all night.
In today’s episode, Harry arrived for his shift at the garage in the morning and was shocked to discover Phil lying motionless. He called for Teddy and Billy, and Teddy confirmed that Phil was still alive.
As an ambulance arrived for Phil, Nigel discovered what had happened to his friend and he agreed to go with him to the hospital.
The doctor realised that Phil had attempted suicide and suggested that he talks to someone about how he’s feeling. But Phil refused and shortly after he discharged himself, claiming that his high blood pressure caused the fall.
Back on the Square, Nigel grew more concerned when Mo revealed that Phil had given Billy £10,000 towards his wedding, and had told her to pretend it was from Stevie.
As Sharon urged Phil to look after himself for the sake of Albie, Nigel arrived home and finally confronted him about his suspicious behaviour.
Phil turned nasty and lashed out at Nigel, calling him a “parasite” and telling him to get him out of his life. Nigel explained that he and Grant protected him when he was younger, and he wanted to repay the favour now – but he eventually agreed to leave.
In the café, Nigel told Sharon that Phil had kicked him out and he was leaving the Square. He explained that he had tried everything, but Phil won’t accept help.
Meanwhile at home, Phil spoke candidly about his feelings for the first time, opening up about the pain he is experiencing. But it was revealed that he was talking to himself and was potentially hallucinating the other person.
Who is Phil talking to, and will he be able to reach out to his loved ones?
