9-1-1: Lone Star EP Promises Final Season Ending: ‘We’re Going to

Say a Beautiful Goodbye to These Characters’ After four seasons of excess,

the brave men and women of 126 are preparing to say goodbye — and

they’re doing it on their own terms. Heading into production on the fifth season of 9-1-1: Lone Star, co-director Rashad Raisani “knew it was going to be a tough sell to get things through Season 5 and potentially make it a successful season. All the business elements that were going on — distribution, sponsors, networks, all that stuff — were outside of our creative control,” he explains.

With that in mind, his intention was to “just let it happen” from the start, building strong emotional arcs for each character that would play out over the course of the 12-episode final season.

For Judd, that emotional arc involves dealing with “uncomfortable feelings he doesn’t want to admit” after Grace’s sudden departure; for Owen, it’s figuring out why he’s been “living in a fog” lately; for Tommy, it’s figuring out how to move forward in her relationship with Trevor amid unforeseen obstacles; for Carlos, now an official Texas Ranger, it’s solving his father’s murder without letting his obsession consume him; for T.K., it’s getting to know his half-brother, with whom he shares a mother; and for Paul and Marjan, it’s competing for the position of lieutenant on the fire department without damaging their friendship.

While Lone Star won’t be returning in Season 6, it’s important that viewers feel like their favorite characters’ lives will continue long after the series ends.

“We gave each of these characters a beautiful goodbye, but we also left the door open for stories, so it really feels like there’s still a lot to explore deeper,” Raisani explained. “I love this show. I love working with these actors. I feel like we’re just scratching the surface of what they can do and what we as a show can do.”
