Will she make it down the aisle?Emmerdale hints at a possible Christmas
wedding for Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard next week.
The ITV soap suggests that a festive ceremony could be on the cards as
Eric aims to show Brenda how committed he is to their relationship. The happy couple are spending time at The Woolpack together when Eric shares his plans for them to tie the knot at Christmas.
Brenda is shocked but impressed by Eric’s idea, which comes completely out of the blue.
The following day, it’s full steam ahead as Eric presents Brenda with an engagement ring.
He explains that he bought the piece of jewellery at an auction as Brenda seems delighted with his choice. But will Eric and Brenda really get their happily-ever-after?
Last week, it was revealed that Lesley Dunlop – who plays Brenda – is leaving Emmerdale after 16 years on the show.
Reports have suggested that the character of Brenda is being written out as part of efforts to slightly reduce cast numbers on the ITV soap.
So far, Emmerdale bosses haven’t commented on the revelations as the show has an established policy of not discussing cast contracts.
The news creates some uncertainty over whether the wedding will go ahead or whether the couple are heading for trouble before the planned ceremony.
News of a possible wedding is among the first teasers we’ve had over December on Emmerdale this year.
Speaking to press at the National Television Awards in September, Emmerdale‘s executive producer Iain MacLeod commented: “This Christmas, there is a huge surprise arrival on Christmas Day.
“As well as some life or death jeopardy on Christmas Day – but obviously there will be festive brilliance as we do every year – but I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year.”
He added: “Christmas in soap is a difficult one as you want it to be dramatic and exciting but you also want it to have that humorous, warmth and festive soapy flavour and I think the balance is bang on here.
“But into 2025, what we have planned so far is the usual degree of spectacle and drama and heightened kind of filming stuff. We also have incredibly heartbreaking family drama with plenty of Dingle action.
“There is also some classic gothic antics at Home Farm – some skullduggery! It is going to be a really exciting 2025 with lots more to come.”
