Is a ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Cast Joining ‘9-1-1’? 1 Actor Could Be Joining the Main Series!

9-1-1 fans could welcome a 9-1-1: Lone Star cast member to the main series.

As we know, 9-1-1: Lone Star ended in January 2025 with its fifth and final season.

However, there could be at least one character who could be joining the main series: Tommy Vega, played by Gina Torres since Season 2. Is Tommy Vega Joining 9-1-1? Fans will want to know after Episode 2 of Season 8, “When the Boeing Gets Hard…” airs.

If you didn’t know, Tommy made a brief appearance as the dispatcher making the final call at the funeral of Emmett Washington, the late fiancé of Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash, in Athena’s flashback.

“All units, clear the air for traffic,” Tommy says. “Call 237, Officer Washington. This is the final call for 237. Officer Emmett Washington is 10-7. Thank you for your dedication, service, and loyalty. You can rest easy. We’ll take it from here.”

In an interview with TVLine last month, co-creator Tim Minear revealed that he cast Gina as the voice because he “really wanted to understand what this moment would be like” for the audience.

“I called Gina and just said, ‘Hey, can you do a little voice for me?’ I needed a great voice, and she had the best voice. She was even the voice on a ride at Disney World, if I’m not mistaken—and I’m not,” he continued.

After “four or five takes,” her recording made it into the final cut.

“I’m always looking for reasons to hire Gina Torres,” he teased.

The two have also worked together on The WB’s Angel and FOX’s Firefly.

Meanwhile, there’s a chance Tommy could star in a new 9-1-1 spinoff, which Ryan Murphy confirmed was in the works last month.

“Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing and we’re hoping to air next fall,” he told Variety. “Sadly, we all love Lone Star, but the financials just weren’t viable. It was a Disney property that was on Fox and it never took off. And we’ve had a long run with that show. So now we’re launching a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s exciting. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously had interest in that show, so we’re going to give them another show that I really like.”

Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani also hinted at a “character arc” for Tommy in an interview with TVLine: “Gina Torres is a Ferrari. Her talent is immense, and this season we’ve gone all out for her to go. She really seizes the moment in Episodes 3 and 4, and then we have a bigger storyline for her that starts to kick in in Episode 6. That’s going to be the storyline that defines her character this season — and probably the series. Big things are going to happen for her character this season.”
