EastEnders actor Colin Salmon has opened up about a
personal link to the George Knight and Kojo Asare storyline.
George recently met his long-lost biological brothers Kojo
and Kobina, who grew up in Ghana, for the first time. While Kobina went back home, Kojo has stayed behind in Walford. Kojo is autistic, and some of George’s family have struggled to adapt to his needs, including George’s partner Elaine.
Speaking to The Sun, Salmon talked about how his own son has autism, whilst praising Kojo star Dayo Koleosho (who also has autism).
“My son’s got autism, so it means a lot to me that we’re representing that in the show,” the actor said. “It meant a lot to my son as well, he’s quite excited about that.
“I don’t know if I’ve put more of myself as I tend to give everything I’ve got anyway, but because of the autism we have to create a safe environment, we have to keep it calm.
“It’s such a positive thing having [Dayo] on set and he always knows his lines, which is more than I can say for some people.”
Recent scenes saw Kojo run away and admit to George’s son Junior that he wants to go back to Ghana and see Kobina. But after a talk with George, in which they discussed their mum, Kojo was convinced to stay.
