Chicago Fire recap: Severide saves the day as the Damon mystery thickens

Severide managed to save the day after an intense showdown with some

dangerous men in Chicago Fire season 12, episode 11, “Inside Man.” Plus

the mystery behind Damon thickens! Would Dennis Quaid rather play coach or

athlete in a legendary sports movie? It’s been a bit since we’ve gotten a Severide-centric episode of Chicago Fire, but it was more than worth the wait! Season 12, episode 11, “Inside Man,” put Severide in a life-or-death situation that put Taylor Kinney front and center in what was an amazing episode for the character!

It all began when Severide was doing some busy work cleaning up one of Truck’s saws late at night when everyone else was getting some rest. He saw a group of armed men sneak into the firehouse and he decided to hide on the truck, not expecting that the men were there to steal it and that’s exactly what they did.

The following morning, Kidd and Kylie were wondering why the firehouse was so cold which was when they discovered that the firetruck was missing and so was Severide. Realizing something was wrong, Kidd called in Chicago PD which made things interesting for Ritter as one of the officers who showed up to investigate was the boyfriend he’s been hiding from his friends – though that secret finally comes out this week, more on that later.

As PD works to figure out what has happened to the firetruck and Severide, it becomes clear the three armed men who stole the firetruck planned in advance as they cut the radio so the truck can’t be easily tracked and slap fake decals over the truck’s numbers to prevent it from being spotted if reported stolen. They drive to Indiana and stop at an abandoned warehouse before two of the men leave, which gives Severide a chance to get a message to 51 using the broken radio on the truck.

Severide attempts to get the upper hand on the gunman who stayed back to guard the stolen truck, but the two struggle, and the gunman gets shot. As Severide attempts to save him, the other two gunmen return and things go from bad to worse. He tries to tell them the injured gunman needs assistance which is when the ringleader kills him courtesy a bullet to the head. He then makes it clear that he’ll be next if he doesn’t cooperate and help drive the truck.

We discover that the plan is to use the stolen firetruck and ambulance to sneak in dirty bombs as part of a terrorist attack. In the chaos, Severide was able to get a hold of one of the men’s phones and uses it to call Kidd and they’re able to track his location using the phone. PD heads out to find the truck and 51 follows them for support, but when they get close they see an explosion and Kidd thinks the worst until she spots Severide in the wreckage.

As we saw, Severide used his wits to create a division which allowed him to distract the gunman and crash the truck before they could use it to harm innocent people. With help from 51, PD is able to bring the gunmen in and save the day! The episode ends with Severide back at home, recovering from the injuries he sustained in the accident when saving the day and countless lives in the process.

Chicago Fire has us wondering who Damon really is
While the bulk of the episode was about Severide, the latest episode continued to make us wonder what Damon is hiding. When Severide went missing, Ritter pointed Kidd in his direction after overhearing his cryptic call in the previous episode that hinted he’s hiding something.

Before the ordeal with the stolen firetruck, Severide questioned Damon about what class he had attended at the academy and Damon quickly told him that he wanted to take one of his classes but was unable to.

“I wanted to take your confined space rescue course but I got wait-listed. I was hoping someone was going to fall out but nobody did. I ended up taking a hazmat course with Captain Miller. I learned a ton about chemistry and field identification. I was hoping to get certified,” Damon told Severide.

The moment raised some red flags as he’s clearly lying and we can’t figure out why. It’s going to be interesting to see what he’s keeping from everyone at 51 but we have a few ideas. One thing we do know is that Damon was not happy at all when Ritter told him about overhearing his phone call and being the reason Kidd and PC questioned him so hard before they knew what was really going on with Severide.
