Now she is back on screens – but this time as an extra in ITV crime drama McDonald & Dodds.

Charley starred as a nurse called Hilary McLean who said she witnessed a man being murdered on a bus.

However, when the show’s leading detectives DCI Lauren McDonald and DS Dodds discovered she was lying, they began to wonder what her motives were.

Charley shared how she was feeling about getting involved with the acting world again, telling followers: “Missed it tonight but had fun with the loveliest people.”

Former Strictly contestant Will Young also made an appearance in the same episode as the Emmerdale star.

At the time when Charley confirmed her exit from the Dales, she said: “This is always my most asked question but I’ve never answered it before because I’ve never wanted to make a big deal of it.

“I left to have Ace 2 years ago. I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline.

“So, I guess officially it’s been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn’t.”

It was based on the story of Charles Ingram who won the £1 million prize on Who Wants to be a Millionaire in 2001.
