EASTENDERS bosses have confirmed that Kat Slater is set for a summer of hell

as her son Tommy Moon spirals out of control. Shocked viewers have already seen

Tommy (Sonny Kendal) lash out and punch Kat (Jessie Wallace) in the stomach

after blaming her for ‘ruining his street cred at school’ after divorcing Walford hardman Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who he idolises. Sign up for the EastEnders newsletter Tommy then called the police on her after she knocked him over in self-defence, accusing her of abusing him. It seems Tommy is emulating his wannabe stepdad Phil’s ways as he continues to fly off the rails by shoplifting from the Minute Mart, skipping school to spend more time with Phil and insulting Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) ahead of taking on a summer job at the Laundrette. And now, he is setting his bullying sights on his brothers Bert and Ernie (Elliott and Cody Briffett), leading to Kat having to step in when he gets too rough with the youngsters during a game of football. It all adds up to a summer of trouble of Kat as manipulative Tommy keeps using the situation between her and Phil to his advantage to keep up a torrent of bad behaviour. A tougher approach to the teen produces a turnaround in his behaviour Tommy seems to be a changed man, with his parents pleased with their progress. But, as The Sun reported earlier this week, EastEnders bosses are keen for the harrowing storyline to continue to play out. The question is how far will Tommy go? EastEnders is working closely with Family Based Solutions and PEGS, as well as experts in the field to ensure the child-to-parent abuse storyline is portrayed as accurately and as sensitively as possible, and NSPCC have consulted on wider aspects of the storyline. Soap boss Chris Clenshaw said: “Kat is well-known in Albert Square for her no-nonsense attitude and fiery temper, but this storyline will explore how Tommy manipulates Kat’s unequivocal love for her son to exert his anger and elicit control.

“Jessie [Wallace] and Sonny’s [Kendall] performances have thoughtfully portrayed the complex realities of child to parent abuse with compassion and understanding, and the storyline will demonstrate how Tommy’s behaviour effects their relationship and the wider Slater-Moon family as a whole. Kat Slater finds out husband Phil Mitchell cheated in shock EastEnders scenes “To ensure we accurately and sensitively portray the realities of child to parent abuse, we have worked alongside Family Based Solutions, PEGS and NSPCC as well as other experts in the field.” Jason Phasouliotis, Secondary Age Lead Practitioner at Family Based Solutions added: “We’re proud to be working alongside EastEnders on this storyline to bring to light a critical and often overlooked issue: child-to-parent abuse (CPA). “Throughout our time working together, EastEnders has shown a deep commitment to portray this sensitive topic with the seriousness it deserves, and we hope this storyline will resonate with families experiencing CPA to encourage them to reach out for support.”

Michelle John, Director at PEGS added: “This storyline is a critical turning point for those experiencing child to parent abuse. Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock… EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police. Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed.

Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose. Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first make rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance. Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal.

They survived, but he didn’t. “By EastEnders showing the reality of child to parent abuse (CPA), not only will it shine a light on CPA, but we hope it will encourage important discussions and raise awareness of the situations parental figures are facing across the UK and further afield. “PEGS was privileged to work alongside EastEnders and provide insight, guidance and support for the team.” Women’s Aid has this advice for victims and their families: Always keep your phone nearby. Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine. If you are in danger, call 999. Familiarise yourself with the Silent Solution, reporting abuse without speaking down the phone, instead dialing “55”. Always keep some money on you, including change for a pay phone or bus fare. If you suspect your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a lower-risk area of the house – for example, where there is a way out and access to a telephone. Avoid the kitchen and garage, where there are likely to be knives or other weapons. Avoid rooms where you might become trapped, such as the bathroom, or where you might be shut into a cupboard or other small space. If you are a victim of domestic abuse, SupportLine is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm on 01708 765200. The charity’s email support service is open weekdays and weekends during the crisis – [email protected]. Women’s Aid provides a live chat service – available weekdays from 8am-6pm and weekends 10am-6pm. You can also call the freephone 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.

Previously, Joel was an EastEnders regular for two years, from 2004 to 2006. Read more on EastEnders In a surprise twist earlier this month, his character Jake returned to Albert Square for the first time in almost two decades. Viewers saw Jake reunite with former lover Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), who had just been released from prison. Cruising together in a sports car, they stopped off outside the Queen Vic, where Chrissie remarked: “Just had to see her one last time. Fancy a swift half?” However, Jake replied: “Nineteen years I’ve waited to get my hands on you again, a cheeky half in the Vic is not what I had in mind. “Now get in that car.” The two drove off together, with Jake just missing out on seeing his cousin Alfie (Shane Richie). EastEnders fans predict legendary character will return ‘from the dead’ as they beg BBC bosses for ‘closure’ This cameo appearance finally resolved the long-running mystery of Jake’s fate. The character’s final scenes back in 2006 implied he was about to be killed, following a misunderstanding – although fans now know he survived. Speaking after his EastEnders comeback aired, actor Joel revealed: “It felt lovely to be back. “Although it was a new set it felt really familiar, and it felt like I’d never been away. Chrissie Watts was played by Tracy-Ann Oberman and is widely considered to be one of the best villains in soap history. The character first arrived in Albert Square in 2004 as she was looking for her estranged husband Den Watts. After she was persuaded to give their marriage another go, she then discovered he had an adopted daughter, Sharon (Letitia Dean) along with two other children, Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) and Vicki Fowler (Scarlett Alice Johnson). Chrissie soon discovers that Den has been having an affair with the local ex-policewoman, Kate Morton (Jill Halfpenny). Chrissie initially worked together with Kate in the salon, before she got her revenge by hacking off her hair in revenge. Chrissie and Den reconciled as she told him that she would kill him if he ever cheated on her again. Together, they decided to defraud Sam Mitchell (Kim Metcalfe) and her family from everything, including their ownership the Queen Vic. However, she soon felt left out by Den after he begins another affair with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), when he tries to get her pregnant after she lied to Dennis. Dennis discovered the affair. Chrissie then persuaded Zoe to abort the baby. Together with Sam Mitchell, they concoct a plan to get their own revenge on Den and either Chrissie or Sam will get hold of the pub. They confront him on the night of his 37th wedding anniversary with Angie. Den is unmoved and confesses all of his wrongdoings, including Chrissie’s part in defrauding the Mitchell’s. However, Sharon was waiting in the shadows and she denounces Den before leaving Watford. Chrissie taunted Den who then attacked her. In turn, Zoe then hits Den with a doorstop which belonged to Den’s sworn enemy Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard). Sam and Zoe panic, but a smug Chrissie taunted him when they were left alone. He violently grabbed her leg before she delivered the fatal blow to his head with the heavy object, unaware that Sam was secretly watching her. Zoe was left unaware of the true extent of what happened that night and Chrissie allowed her to think that she killed Den. The trio hid the body in the Vic, before Sam confronted Chrissie about what she truly saw. Sam demanded that the ownership of the pub reverted back to the Mitchell family. Sam tells Zoe the truth about the murder and Zoe leaves Walford. but she tells Kat (Jessie Wallace) about the killing. Sam gets drunk on Sharon and Dennis’ wedding day, digs up den’s body in the hope that Chrissie will be sent down. But Chrissie feigned grief as she comforted Sharon over her dad’s death. Sam told the police about the murder, but when Den’s blood was found under Sam’s sink, complete with her changing story, she got the blame for his murder. Chrissie also convinces Kat to get Stacey (Lacey Turner) to give a false alibi to the police that Zoe and Chrissie were with Kat her that night. Sam’s mother Peggy (Barbara Windsor) returned to Walford and slapped Chrissie who fell into Den’s grave at the funeral. The matriarch also accused her of murder by framing her daughter. Stacey soon learned the truth and she blackmailed Chrissie for money. In return, she then forms a relationship with Jake Moon (Joel Beckett) and she attempts to sell the Queen Vic to Jake’s gangland boss Johnny Allen (Billy Murray). After making a series of mistakes, she planned to free the country with Jake. Before then, they argued at Johnny’s nightclub, where Chrissie confessed that she killed Den with the doorstop. Johnny told Phil and Grant about the tape but Chrissie and Jake were already on their way out of the country. However, they were almost stopped by Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) and Billy (Perry Fenwick) informed the police. At the airport, she was confronted by Sharon and was arrested by police after an exchange of words and a punch to the face. Chrissie only co-operated with the force in exchange for a meeting with Sharon, as she tried to get her to understand why she killed Den. In the meantime, Sam was released on bail but fled to Brazil with the help of Phil. Jake visited her in prison and proposes to her. However, she discovered that he lost the £25,000 that was to be her bail money and she called him an ‘idiot’ before storming out. She then decided to get revenge on Sharon for sending her to prison. She attempted to force her to testify in court about what Den was like as Chrissie thought that Sharon would crumble. But still looking at Sharon like a step-daughter she called off her plan, fired her solicitor and plead guilty to the murder. She was then sentenced to life imprisonment. “You never forget Albert Square.” Meanwhile, the star is also a familiar face to fans of classic BBC sitcom The Office.
