Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone is soon nearing its end with the remaining episodes of the fifth
season. Over 6-7 years, the series has amassed a massive following and it is the flagship show for
Paramount+. After part 1 of season 5 had been aired, Costner left the show citing creative
differences with series creator Taylor Sheridan. “I didn’t want to dirty up the road”: Harrison Ford Didn’t Reach Out to Kevin Costner for Yellowstone Spin-Off and it Had Nothing to Do With Taylor Sheridan Feud With production yet to start, Costner’s co-star Cole Hauser, who plays John’s right-hand man Rip Wheeler, talked to Dexerto about his hopes for the show. The actor stated that despite all the setbacks, he wants the show to end on a strong note. While he is also excited for his return to the future of the Yellowstone universe with Matthew McConaughey’s starrer follow-up show 2024), he is focused on making the best show and everyone to do their best in giving Yellowstone a satisfying end.
Hauser said, “I’m so focused on finishing Yellowstone the way it needs to be finished right now — well, just the show itself. We’ll see where that leads, but I know that there’s some stuff on the horizon when it comes to Taylor’s ideas for Kelly Reilly and myself, and some of the other cast. I’m excited to see where he goes creatively with that but right now it’s just, let’s finish strong; let’s do the best we can.” Costner has recently expressed his desire to return to finish off Yellowstone (to Entertainment Tonight) but claimed that certain problems have prevented him from doing so. With the possible no-show for John Dutton, the show may have a big task on their hands to end on a high without its lead character. With Hauser and the other cast all trusting Sheridan to give a befitting ending, fans hope that the show delivers on its promise.
Kevin Costner distanced himself from Yellowstone last year following creative differences with Taylor Sheridan. While he may not return to the show, he does not seem to have any bad blood with the series creator. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that he would be open to reuniting with Sheridan if the right project comes up. Costner stated that Sheridan’s ideas and his body of work are very interesting and he likes the work he makes. They both have a synergy between them and Costner would be thrilled to join Sheridan if he thinks he’s perfect for a part he wrote.“He’s doing special work in a lot of different ways. He’s very prolific about the things he does, and if he sees me in something that he wants to do, I’ll look at it just the way I did Yellowstone and maybe we will end up doing something together.
He likes a lot of the things that I like, and the idea of us working together is not out of the question for me. The subjects he chooses are very interesting to me. I like a lot of that stuff. Yellowstone stands out as something that could continue. But that is a Taylor question. But other things that he’s doing I think are really, really good. He likes the same subjects that I do.” Costner is currently gearing up for the release of his passion project Horizon: The American Saga, which he plans to expand into four parts. The first two parts will be released on June 28, 2024 and August 16, 2024 respectively.
