VIRGIN RIVER season 3 is finally here and fans are keen to find out more about Charmaine’s
new relationship. Is her new boyfriend just a plot to trick Jack into staying? Virgin River season
three is on Netflix now and the trailer reveals Charmaine (played by Lauren Hammersley) is
in a new relationship. She did not take the news of Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) new romance lightly. Behaviour expert Nick Davies spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about whether her relationship with Todd (Patrick Sabongui) is genuine. Is Charmaine’s new relationship a trick? Virgin River fans were left on the edge of their seats following the season two cliffhanger that saw Jack Sheridan get shot at his bar. His new partner, Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) found him just in time and the season three trailer revealed he pulled through. However, he has plenty more on his plate having returned to Virgin River, including his ex-girlfriend Charmaine and her newborn twins. In season two, Charmaine made it her mission to keep Jack all to herself and some fans even suspect the babies are not Jack’s.
They have suggested the pregnancy was a trick to keep Jack on side and distract him from his relationship with nurse Mel. Charmaine may have another trick up her sleeve in season three, as she introduces a new beau. In the trailer for season three, she is seen having a heart-to-heart with Jack about their relationship history. She is heard saying how she understood why Jack was so overwhelmed by the baby news, but he did not have to worry any more. Charmaine explained how she had Todd in her life and she was happy, but behaviour expert Nick Davies suggested it could be a facade. He said: “Her glance is fairly innocent, but her new boyfriend’s double look back [at Jack] is marking his territory as he senses their connection.” He suggested Charmaine still has feelings for Jack, and this in turn is rubbing off on new boyfriend Todd, who is possibly a rebound. Nick added: “Todd is feeling insecure and is therefore gesturing by turning his body towards her ex that she is now his.
“This normally happens when someone dates a new partner who still has feelings for their ex or feels insecure because of the deep connection relationship they had. “So he’s feeling ‘not quite enough’ for her at the moment.” With this in mind, it seems Charmaine could be using Todd as a trophy to get back at Jack. She had given Jack the ultimatum of choosing between herself and Mel, and put Jack in a very difficult position. Trusting his own heart, Jack told Charmaine he wanted to pursue his relationship with Mel. Viewers have also grown suspicious of her new boyfriend and they will be interested to find out how the pair met. In the series, Charmaine says she met Todd when he came into the salon, and he was a wealthy businessman. In the trailer, Todd appears to look awkward during his first meeting with Jack and he clearly feels uncomfortable with the relationship history. He then makes Jack an offer to adopt his twins, cutting off Jack’s chances of bonding with his own children.
Nick’s theory of Todd being a rebound to make Jack jealous is certainly a possibility, as Charmaine is still considered to be the show’s antagonist. She may want Jack to feel guilty about choosing Mel over the mother of his children, and introducing Todd would be the perfect way to make him reflect on his decisions. Todd actor Sabongui is on Instagram and he shared a photo of himself with actress Hammersley from the set of Virgin River. He said: “Hello World. Meet Todd Masry, Charmaine’s new friend.” One fan responded: “Todd Masry welcome to Virgin River! Just one request, please make Charmaine incandescently happy so she can leave Jack alone!”
