In a gripping turn of events, Moira Dingle takes drastic action to protect her son, Matty Barton, in
Emmerdale. Last week, newcomer Josh Cope escalated his vendetta against Matty by instigating a
fight at The Hide, leading to Samson being pushed into Matty while he was holding a knife. As a result,
Matty was arrested and now faces serious prison time if convicted of stabbing Samson. In the tense episode airing Wednesday, July 18, on ITV and streaming service ITVX, Amy and Moira visit a distressed Matty in prison. They are alarmed to find out that Matty hasn’t showered in days and is missing his medication. Meanwhile, back in the village, Cain Dingle confronts Samson about the stabbing.
Cain has figured out that Josh orchestrated the whole incident and tries to convince Samson to clear Matty’s name. However, Samson, fearing Josh’s wrath, refuses to tell the truth. Moira, furious upon learning that Samson is sticking to his false story, decides to take matters into her own hands. She follows Samson into The Woolpack and, with Mackenzie’s help distracting Charity, traps Samson in the toilets. In a shocking scene, Moira shoves Samson against the wall and jabs his stab wound, threatening him to confess the truth. Charity and Mackenzie rush to intervene as Samson cries out in pain. As Mackenzie pulls her away, Moira pleads with Samson to admit the truth, emphasizing Matty’s kindness and fear.
Samson, however, cruelly wishes Matty never gets out of prison, infuriating Moira further. Back home, Cain warns Moira that her actions could jeopardize Matty’s case, leading to a heated argument where Moira accuses Cain of being weak and failing to support their family.
